Just do what you want to do. Whether that's computer science, self-taught programmer, joining the army, dancing, theoretical physics. A high salary isn't everything. What good is earning good money if you hate going to work every morning? Whatever you choose is probably not a "wrong" choice. Let's say you start studying physics. That doesn't mean you have to become a physicist and you can never change career. Let's say you start studying CS and your fear about lack of IT jobs turns out to be true. The problem solving skills and the analytical and abstract thinking you'll have learned is useful in many other areas.

The same thing would happen on all other servers where you are using an IPv6 network interface. You can set Apache to explicitly only listen on the IPv4 loopback address, i.e. 127.0.0.1 if you wish.

When I was I think like 9 or 10 years old my parents got me some sort of computer magazine subscription. They started this HTML tutorial series. I had a PS1 and at that time I thought that cheat codes were damn cool. You know, you could be invincible, have infinite ammo and shit. Anyways, I started collecting cheat codes for the games I owned and making some probably hideously looking piece of shit "website" on our computer. You know with <blink>, <marquee>, animated GIFs and obnoxious Javascript effects I pasted in but had no idea how worked. I had noticed that on the internet, some webpages had things like index.php?foo=bar or wicked_stuff.asp?hello=world. I thought that looked pretty cool so I wanted to name my local HTML files that. The problem was just that Windows complained when I tried putting question marks in filenames, so I was like WTF? Then I wanted to know what was going on and how the hell they managed to name their files like that. Eventually I found out you could use something called PHP and the question mark thing wasn't actually part of the filename. I would imagine I then started making a lot of horribly crafted scripts that I thought were "the shit" and that I was pretty cool because I was a "programmer". That's probably the lamest story ever, but it's true nonetheless.

What is that conspiracy theory about? This sums up what I know about it: http://www.snopes.com/rumors/pentagon.asp

Yeah, the reasoning is the same in Denmark. I can technically watch it, so I have to pay no matter if I do watch it or not. It's like £274.85/yr. It's pretty stupid. I, who watch no TV whatsoever, has to pay the same as a family with two parents both earning 8 times more money than I do and who have three children, all of who watch a lot of TV. This being enforced by law makes it a de facto added tax except it's severely skewed in favor of people with more money. It may not sound like a money, but a) why pay for something you don't want, and b) I know for a fact that a lot of students are living on a very tight budget*. * Though it's also somewhat a matter of prioritizing. A lot of young people also want to go out every weekend and wear designer clothes. Either way, it's their money, so they should be free to spend them as they want and not be forced to purchase some arbitrary product. Edit: Oh yeah, and guess what? Old people who have nothing else to do but watch TV all day get a 50% discount. Nice.

Nothing is stopping them from banning non-UK resident IP addresses. That would be like if I put up a poster somewhere in central Copenhagen and demanded that everybody who sees it should pay me money. If they don't want me to see it, don't let me see it. If I circumvent the measures they take against me, only then can they complain. Denmark has some bullshit TV licensing as well. If you have either of the following: a) a TV, b) a radio, c) a cell phone, d) an Internet connection with speed >= 256 kbps, you'll have to pay a stupid TV license (or media license as they call it). I don't know anyone who doesn't have either of those and you can't even purchase an Internet connection slower than 256 kbps. Except they won't get anything from me. I don't want their product so I'm not going to pay for it.

Surely that is an extremely high salary. That works out at £50k. To earn that sort of cash you would have to have at least 10+ years experience and be in a managerial / team leader role in the UK. There is no way that a graduate with no work experience would earn anything near that as a software engineer in the UK no matter the location. Guessing tops would be about £25k, and you would have to be lucky. http://www.prosa.dk/raadgivning/loenstatistik/oest-for-storebaelt/programmering-og-udvikling/3-12-aars-it-erfaring/ I know it's in Danish, so you cannot read it. Anyways, these are some stats on average salaries per month for programmers/developers working 37 hours/week. It's grouped in "years of IT-experience" which is defined to be the number of years you've worked in the industry and the number of years your education took. A master's degree is nominated for 5 years (300 ECTS points). That makes 34000 DKK/month reasonable according to those stats. A lot of people at my department are also actually interested in computer science (compared to some people who are just in it for the potential high salaries) so they are actively studying things on their own, having their own programming projects and have IT related spare time jobs. This means many people aren't just complete noobs when they leave. Computer scientists do happen to be one of the most well-paid university graduates in Denmark though. Yeah. Often people say that Google's engineers and researchers are paid a lot of money, but from what I know, living in Mountain View, California is pretty expensive as well.

Yeah, it's in USD. We have a couple of internal mailing lists at my department. Someone who graduated with an MSc this summer wrote in one of the threads that his salary is around 34000 DKK/month. According to Google, 34000*12 DKK in USD = 82738.32 USD. It doesn't mean much to people who don't live in Denmark though. The $30k OP mentioned is a joke in some countries and a fortune in others.

In what? Comparative literature, medical chemistry, history and aesthetics of dancing (that actually used to be a real education on my university), computer science, mathematics? I'd say that's a pretty relevant thing. As someone also said, 30k/yr doesn't really mean anything without specifying a location, and more importantly a currency. I'm going to assume USD. 30k USD/yr would be a rip off where I live. For comparison, it's pretty much the norm that computer science graduates have entry level salaries of +$70k/yr where I live, and that's on the low end. Here it's also the norm that people go for a MSc instead of "only" BSc though. Basically you'll be competitively disadvantaged if you only have a BSc because everybody else take an MSc. Bottom line: A community consisting of people from all over the world can't tell you about expected salary. Research what people are paid in your local area. Ask recent graduates from your university. Assuming you're not significantly below average you can probably expect to earn somewhere near the same as they do.

Why would I want to pay for their news when their competitors give it to me for free? Ad based funding would work better IMO. Now, if people stopped using annoying flashing, blinking and screaming ads and stopped using Flash based ads I would also consider turning off my adblocker. Flash uses a ridiculous amount of memory and CPU time. I often read from Google Reader so I might open like 10 articles at a time. With 3-4 Flash ads on a page (not uncommon) this would mean 30-40 new Flash animations. That's unacceptable to me as long as Flash is such a resource hog.

There is also a documentation issue.

It's not even a browser problem. It's a protocol problem. There is just nothing you can do against it unless you replace it with another protocol, but that's a huge task.

I should just use my mad skills to ninja edit my post making you look like a fool for "misreading" my post. Now because I'm such a nice person, I'm of course not going to do that

Pfft... like I would try to get shit from your brain. I'd be afraid of catching some sort of weird mental decease as well.

Tip: When you ask for help, don't attach your code in a file. It's an inconvenience for people who would potentially help you. You don't want to make things inconvenient for the people helping you for free. You risk people will just ignore you. Help others help you.

PHP scripts needn't necessarily be run through a web server.

Could you try rephrasing your post? This time with an actual question and proper English. No offense, but you post just doesn't make much sense.

TLDR.

I think e.g. "what's your favourite editor?" is a legitimate and relevant question. You might just not be interested in following the topic for all eternity.

Dunno. Does the molecular structure change when the molecules get colder? I thought they would just move less.

Couldn't you freeze them to around 0 Kelvin?
