  1. Now this is rather off-topic but have you considered trying out Linux instead of Windows XP to host with? I for one tried with XP before and it is slow (As much as 7 times slower with the same machine) compared to a Linux (Ubuntu 9.10 server to be exact).

Linux seems to be far more stable than Windows XP (Especially when it comes to Home.). My computer previously had problems concerning its 3rd RAM slot where it would crash in XP. Linux isn't giving me any problems whatsoever with that 3rd RAM slot.

  2.

I think that's the joke of it.

(Or did I miss your sarcasm?)

I was just about to ask the same question as Mikesta but then you replied 15 seconds early.

Honestly, I don't understand how its funny though.

  3. You might want to elaborate on exactly what exactly you're so dissatisfied about. Otherwise we stand little chance of improving, let alone knowing what you're even talking about.

Daniel, have you never heard of the term "Troll" before?

  4. Man, that looks fake. If someone gets that drunk they would just pass out.

Also, how the heck did that guy manage to drive all the way to that store if he can hardly even walk?

EDIT: Also why weren't the cops called and instead only the managment? Someone who is that drunk who surely drove there people would be more worried about public safety so to call a cop, right? If you think he walked there, he can't even walk 20 feet before crash and burn, so clearly thats not the case.

  5.

Further, Guess what? As XP can only support 4GBs of RAM in TOTAL, If you had a video card @ 512MBs vRAM XP cannot physically allocate over the max and you'll be shown ~3.5GBs in the task manager.

For example, in my computer I have a memory card with 512MB memory, so that would bump me down to just under 3.5MB right away, then all the other stuff.

I'm at 4GB of physical RAM, then after the OS it says I'm at 3.4GBs, but yet my videocard has 1GB of RAM (I did not actually check but thats what the specs were claimed to be when I bought it.). Now 4GB - 1GB = 3GB not 3.4GB. So how does this work?

  6. Something doesn't make sense. Why does your XP only have 2.75 GB? Mine which I think is the same OS, uses 3.4 GB which is 32 bits but why 2.75 GB? Like someone said below, it could be a motherboard limitation.

  7. I used the same computer for both of these OS types.

    1.: EasyPHP + Vista

    2.: Ubuntu + PHP/MYSQL/APACHE2

Number 2 runs about 7 times faster than 1. Goes from 3.5 seconds to 0.5 seconds a page refresh.

7 times? How is that even possible to have such a huge difference? I was expecting number 2 to be slightly faster, but 7 times!?

So really, whats up with this huge difference? Is it EasyPHP inefficiency?  Vista? Or does PHP/MySQL/Apache2 just run that much faster on a Linux OS?

The script is mostly querys from a database.

  8. Man, I can't even figure out how to login into Ubuntu 9.10 server edition.

It has a screen "(server name) login:"

I then tried both full name and account name into the login screen, then it brings me to the "password" line, but there I can only hit "enter" key and then it brings me to another line where I typed in my password but always gives me one of these two errors:

Login timed out after 60 seconds

    OR

    Login incorrect.

I'm sure this is all very basic but for some reason I can't figure it.

  9. Man, I bet that stuff takes off 30 years of your life as well. Even if the side effects don't seem bad currently, this could just be sheer ignorance. People 200 years ago thought giving mercury (Possibly some other fatal substance) to patience was a way to cure people.

Live it natural as any scientific "benefit" has always been a disaster for the human body. (I'm not saying certain drugs that keep people alive due to certain diseases are bad for them in specific, as it out-weighs the side-effects.)

  10. I'm more of a great effort for great reward person and little for little effort for little reward.

The former I'm taking about is a hydroplant vs a solar panel. Solar panels suck, lets face it. They die out in 20 years, produce not that much of energy, only practical in certain locations, etc. etc. etc.

Lets look at the Hoover Dam. Generates 4000 GWh annually. That is an INSANE amount of energy for what little effort is needed to keep it running. Exactly how many joules is 4000 GWh?

14400000(000)(000)(000) Joules. Thats alota joules. (Unless I miscalculated) The parenthesis is a decrease from giga to mega to kilo to normal. Rivers are not gonna stop flowing so thats a HUGE amount of energy. Hydropower is the way to go people!

    Edit:

In 1999, a study by Mark. P. Mills [22] of the Green Earth Society reported that computers consumed 13% of the entire US supply.

More proof computers should be banned totally.

  11. PHP at 11 huh? Something tells me this was more along of declaring variables and adding them together type PHP? Aka, you didn't really know what you were doing?

My compliments if you understood what you were doing at 11 though. I know I never would have been able to.

  12. What it does is trivial. Sure, it could increase it by a very, very, very, low number, but its as valid as the population end-of-the-world scenario. They both hold stone if they are blown completely out of proportion in which needs to happen for it to destroy the world.

Eg. We have 10 trillion people on earth. Everything is the streets of a major city. No where to plant vegetation or food, people starve. I suppose it doesn't make sense as how could you get to 10 trillion in the first place? But anyways, that was considered a "serious threat" that earth would run out of capacity.

Sure to the same extent of global warming destroying earth. If we produced a gigantic number of CO2, the world could theoretically be in jeopardy.

Really, air pollution is gonna kill people before global warming does. Chinese people don't live a shorter life due to heat, its due to air contamination and from my knowledge, you can't really have global warming without air pollution so therefore global warming is not a threat but air pollution is.

Really, if we did increase 0.5 (Not sure if this is F or C. Also that could easily be just luck more or less. Maybe next century it will be a drop of 0.6 degrees?) in the last 100 years, we surely will die from air pollution first as far as the air pollution:temperature ratio goes.

  13. That's ridiculous. Your point?

Thats my same exact thought when we consider how much money we are wasting to "save the world from impending disaster".

People were sure that witchcraft would bring an end to the world so they went on witch hunts.

People thought we would overpopulate the planet and eat all the food and then we all die from starvation so they attempted to make population caps (China attempted to make one at what was it? 1B?).

People thought that "global warming" is going to destroy the entire planet.

People thought that...oh wait I'm not a future teller.  ;)

Honestly, if a politician tells me something, I'm just gonna believe he is wrong and I'll be right more than wrong. Lawyers are not the bad guys, politicians are.

  14. Please don't drink and drive.

    Drink then drive!

Is that still the cool thing to say in junior high?

No, he is just saying how much he cares about PHPFreakers. ;)

  15. Yeah I agree. This is a terrible crysis (Not to be confused with the VG). I hope some great politician for mother earth will make a policy to force everyone on bikes instead of cars as they just pollute way too much for the good of us all.

Also, we must not allow forests to burn themself. We need to form some peace negotiation.

Computers should just be destroyed as they consume a massive amount of energy. Also they let people look at the other side of the story that simply will not work in a free, everyone-works-the-same, society.

I think North Korea is a perfect example of a country. They all believe in their leader, they don't have any vehicles (Why don't we do this?), and they never ever speak against whats going on (Well, if someone does it will only be temporary as they will reasonably work out his problems why he is upset about the way the country is.). Lets bring up food consumption. The per capita for food in NK is far less than US which means more efficient people!
