shank888
Hey all, just curious how many of you guys have coded or programmed an online community before? was it hard? is it still working? can you post it? how did you market it? Looking at other major online communities what features do you think are critical? and... what features have you never seen on a community before, but think it would be great to have? .josh
The main site here was a group effort, built from the ground up. Dunno if you'd count that as a "community project" or not. shank888
hmm, a forum to me is a community. and this site says its powered by : Powered by SMF 1.1.6 Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/124231-community-programers/#findComment-641614 Share on other sites
.josh
Well then maybe you should have said forum instead of community. But to me that kind of restricts the definition of a community. The main site is part of this 'community;' people can post tutorials and news and blogs etc.. and comment on them etc.. imo that's very similar to what a forum can do. The main site and the forum make up the community. Maq
What's the "main site"? All I see is a SMF forum here with a couple mods. I agree with shank that a forum is a community. To create a forum is quite simple, and there are many free ones out there. I think there is a sticky, or at least a topic, on peoples' opinions on best forums. There are many engines that provide you with online communities it just depends on what you're looking for. And of course, most of the good ones aren't free ;/ Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/124231-community-programers/#findComment-642014 Share on other sites
Daniel0
Uhm... maybe if you take the URL http://www.phpfreaks.com/forums and remove "forums"...? Maq
Yes, still a community. IRC Chat, forums links, blogs, tutorials... I still consider this a community all around. Maq
Well, you asked what the main site is and you said that this site is just an SMF install... Yes, sorry I just have the forums part bookmarked so that's what I'm used to seeing first .
