Looking at other major online communities what features do you think are critical? and... what features have you never seen on a community before, but think it would be great to have? The main site is part of this 'community;' people can post tutorials and news and blogs etc.. and comment on them etc.. imo that's very similar to what a forum can do. To create a forum is quite simple, and there are many free ones out there. I think there is a sticky, or at least a topic, on peoples' opinions on best forums. There are many engines that provide you with online communities it just depends on what you're looking for.
