waynew
Finally, you guys saw sense and decided to get some money out of your traffic. Forum ad reply is a good idea. The Google Adsense text add at the top looks a little too much like an advert though, which is usually considered a bad thing. Ads usually perform better if they blend in with their surroundings. Would look better and probably work better if you styled it in a way that made it look as if it wasn't an advert. Also Advert at the bottom has a white background that is different from the greyish-white colour of the forum bg.

waynew
Oh, I'm not against it. I've long thought that PHPFreaks should host adverts.

tibberous
Server powered ripped me off $50 on a VPS - I think that should be enough for me to be in the Phpfreaks donator group. I bought that with damn near my last $50. They gave it to me with nothing on it, I tried to set it up, it didn't come back up after a reboot and they wanted to charge me like $75 an hour to fix it. You'll have to take that up with the ServerPowered sales department. ServerPowered and PHP Freaks are different branches of The Web Freaks and their only relation is that both of those belong to The Web Freaks and our server is in ServerPowered's datacenter. PHP Freaks admins do not have access to customer info and whether a customer has got what he paid for or not. I can tell you, however, that unmanaged Virtual Private Servers usually come with a bare minimum operating system, which is what I assume is the case when you say that it came "with nothing on it". Also Advert at the bottom has a white background that is different from the greyish-white colour of the forum bg. We cannot style it. I don't know if you can through the AdSense panel, but I don't have access to that.
tibberous
I dunno, it just seems odd to offer *no* support for $50 a month. I have a dedicated server through surpass for $50 a month, and they not only fix it, they install software on it. Even bluehost, who I was paying like $7 a month, provided tech support. It wasn't like I was asking them to set it up - I was completely unable to connect. My only options were to pay them or cancel, they didn't even to restore it to default. corbin
Just of curiosity, what was wrong with it? Was it a corrupt kernel or something? Or was it something that you changed that made it not restart? (You do mean unable to start, right? Not that they had to hit the power button?) trq
They gave it to me with nothing on it, I tried to set it up, it didn't come back up after a reboot You really should read about what your buying before you do so. Most vps's come with a base system and that is all. In fact, I would be dirty if any vps I bought came with anything more.
