jcombs_31
I've actually done some reading and seen about 50/50 as to what people use. I'm still honestly confused about he major difference between the two and which is better/worse and for what reasons. Can someone shed some light. steviewdr
apt is the back end. aptitude is the front gui end. To be honest, there are only 4-5 apt* commands, so I know them off. For a beginner user on the cmdline, aptitude will provide an interface for all package options. I go with apt. jcombs_31
So aptitude just has the option to get menus. So, what I really wanted to know is that there is absolutely no difference in running these two commands aptitude install someprogram apt-get install someprogram I just see a mix of people using one or the other in that same format. steviewdr
There is no difference, in my opinion between: apt-get install vim aptitude install vim I have always used apt-get. -steve
Daniel0
I find it easier to use aptitude. One command instead of multiple apt-* commands.
