If you are looking to reduce file sizes, have you considered using GZip? It works well when using PHP, and allows you to very easily reduce the file size transmitted by the server... in the case of your homepage 66%.

Hey thanks for pointing out the Gzip ;)

I've just added it to my site and it works brilliantly! I hadn't looked into it before.
