dezkit
Hello guys. I have a situation, but I can't explain it, so I will give an example; I have a subdomain of a domain, for example: mysite.site.com/site.php Is it possible to buy a domain where as instead of "mysite.site.com", it just says "site2.com"? I think this can be done with dns, but can somebody put me in the right path? Thank you, Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/154263-subdomain-clone/ Share on other sites
premiso
You can always do a 301 redirect at the subdomain via .htaccess to the new domain. That will tell any bots to use the new address etc. Probably the best way to do it. dezkit
That's not what I mean. Go to www.bungie.net and then go to www.halo3.org, you will see that halo3.org and bungie.net have the same files, except that bungie.net is where all the files are. premiso
What is your goal for doing this? Just out of curiosity. If it is for SEO reasons...well that can get you banned from google. As far as doing it look into Addon Domains, as that is what this would be considered. Your host may support/offer the addon domain to you. dezkit
I don't want to buy a domain AND hosting for it, I already have a domain that has a subdirectory, but I just want somehow to only buy a domain (10$) and it makes www.site2.com, show contents from site.site.com Thanks, Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/154263-subdomain-clone/#findComment-811111 Share on other sites
Daniel0
For site2.com, add CNAME records for site.site.com. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/154263-subdomain-clone/#findComment-811236 Share on other sites
dezkit
For site2.com, add CNAME records for site.site.com. Where do I get this CNAME thing from? site2.com's control panel or site.com's control panel Also: Does godaddy support this CNAME records change? Thank you, as I am a noob at this. Daniel0
They would most certainly support it, but they might have called it something else. You'll have to consult your control panels' help pages to figure it out.
