JonnoTheDev
Just stay away from macs. Edit: I just remembered: http://www.dumb.com/videos/Mac_equals_Suck I think the older Macs are not to be compared with todays models. We have an iMac like in that video and it is crappy, but we only paid about £50 for it just so we could see what our users who have macs are looking at when they need help. waynew
One thing PC users can do that Mac users can't
448191
Hammers are better than screw drivers are better than wrenches. You gotta pick the right tool for the job. Average user, day-to-day business unrelated to video or CAD: Windows Average user, day-to-day business in video or CAD: Mac Average user, general purpose multimedia machine: Windows or Mac Gaming rig: Windows Novice user, non-business: Mac Stable server: Linux For the extreme enthusiast that likes to tweak every thing and doesn't mind spending 24 hours on something that should take 10 minutes or less, it doesn't really matter. My parents rendered their Windows PC inoperable three times in a row in less than three months. The number of phone calls I received from them about the PC and the weekends I spent reinstalling Windows were a real pain. On the fourth time they destroyed it, I said, "That's it. We're going to CompUSA and you're buying a Mac." That was like three years ago and their Mac is still running like a champ. I haven't had a "Help me with my computer" phone call in months either. Couple of categories missing there, most importantly: LAMP Developer: Linux But also HTPC, any type of network-attached machine: Linux And LAMP Developer, day-to-day business unrelated to video or CAD: Linux LAMP Developer, general purpose multimedia machine: Linux
jcombs_31
They used to have different hardware (basing on Motorola CPUs AFAIR) but not anymore. The processors were IBM processors before they switched to Intel. The last IBM processor was the G5.

JonnoTheDev
I like this: 4,446,611 Mac fans switched back over to Windows, even though Windows is just as shitty.
Mchl
Current Mac CPUs use Intel's x86 architecture; models from 1994-2006 used the AIM alliance's PowerPC and models from 1984-1994 used Motorola's 68k. Wow... look like I missed 1994-2006 era completely
