My dad owns a plumbing business, and due to the economy turding out. business is pretty slow. He wants to try some advertising with google. I made him a fairly quick site 6 hours(ish). Before i continue, i wanted to know if you guys thought it was a little too corny.

Your dad the plumber is literally going down the gutter; so you decided to make him a website.  Before I clicked on the link to the website I was expecting to at least see one piece of PVC pipe somewhere on the page, perhaps a toilet, maybe even Mario and Luigi.

Instead.. I'm shown this "creative" display of pipe cutters (that when reduced to a favicon, looks like a marijuana leaf) above .... a bunch of words.  What did the words say?  I don't know.. they weren't displayed in such a way that seemed important, but I do know you dad is perfectly capable of arranging pipe cutters.

Yes.

I think it would be better if the whole thing was a slideshow.. honestly.

I hope I was able to provide some insight...even if I didn't have anything positive to say.

you actually came off as a bit angry... havin a bad day? JK thanks for the input, Im gonna work on the graphics a little bit and do the slideshow and put it up. Ill then redo it and make a better one, thats less cheesy. Cause he needs one asap for his advertising. He isnt really goin down the toilet, but business isnt booming like it was. So he's just try to broaden his advertising a bit.

I cant tell if you litterally mean you want the whole thing to be a slide show... or you were being sarcastic?

Also keep in mind that he doesnt want a real complicated design. Just something that lets people know what he does and where. In his experience with yellowbook ads and other advertising, if people see too much they dont care. They just want what kind of plumbing he does and if he close enough to their area. So im trying to keep it as simple as possible.

if i were you i'd put his picture on there somewhere with a quote(real or made up) about what he thinks of his services, or any guarantees, etc. from a business standpoint people love to put a face to a company name, and it could really help sales. i would also put up some testimonials, by asking customers who have been satisfied with his work to write a small paragraph about what they thought of the work.

i dont have an artist side, but the thick border does not look good to me. i think it has been mention, but maybe create a better plumbing feel... i would not mind seeing this robert guy that i am not thinking about hiring, maybe like on the left side of the logo

  • 1 month later...

For what it is, I think it's pretty good... you don't really need much. Maybe a slideshow of comments? You know.. like some sites have that:

"We called and he was fast and did the job right!" Stephanie from Encino

... other then that it's fine.

I don't like the rollover on the phone number, and if you're gonna have the mail to link, it should just be wrapped around some text such as 'Contact Us' or something along those lines. Without having an address like contact@x.com, it just seems strange.
