andrewgauger Posted April 30, 2010 Share Posted April 30, 2010 I currently am using Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 for my developmental server. Often, I use the GUI for my actual development (Eclipse). I am about to upgrade the motherboard, power supply, and memory. Should I migrate to Ubuntu 10.04 server, desktop, or wait for RHEL 5.5? Does any one here have anything to say about these platforms? trq Posted April 30, 2010 Share Posted April 30, 2010 I've never been a fan of any of the Redhat derivatives, but its personal choice really. if your comfortable with it, it might be best to stick with it. trq Posted April 30, 2010 Share Posted April 30, 2010 Debian is good, nice and stable. Though unless your running the unstable branch its usually pretty far behind in terms of packages available. Even unstable is behind most other distros. Gentoo is good if your looking for a learning experience, but really, its all personal choice. All my systems are either Gentoo or Debian except for my wife's laptop which is Ubuntu.
