If you haven't updated the OS on your PS3, you could install Linux on it, then connect to your desktop over something like RDP. Not really ideal though. Some graphics cards have ports such as HDMI or S-Video that you could plug the TV into, and some TVs support VGA / DVI that you could also use. You can even convert from DVI to HDMI with an adapter.

 

Direct connection is your best bet.
