I have finally completed my site - I need your advice now!!

Recommended Posts

hello everyone,

i finally completed my new site. moved to a new domain. still need to change some images but its pretty much done.

its www.semesterold.com like Semester Old

its a classified site for college textbooks

first page you'll see is states page....not gonna tell you much about because i'd like to hear some first impressions

please please be very detailed...

what does the website feel like

is it easy to move around

would you ever use the site? why not?

how are the colors?

thank you guys so much!!!THIS WILL HELP SO MUCH

that is very annoying....i needed something that would hide and display zip code box upon click....i couldn't find anything else except that javascript....im still working on how i can keep it from going to the top again...you know of anything that could do the job?

thank you ignace!! works Great!!!

I am still looking for a few critiques please guys. i would really like someone to tell me what they think of the site and what they would change

would help me soooo much!!

incorporated eBay API into the listings and if you guys can tell me what you think of that. would you sell your textbooks on my site?

thank you

It gives me the feeling of a sedoparking website (the ones that register domains to sell with profit), Meaning if I would accidentally visit your site I would be gone pretty fast.

So what do i suggest to improve this.

- make a drop down menu with the states, or some interactive fancy state map. Why? because the way the links are displayed  looks cheap, and slightly chaotic.

- I do like the horizontal menu. Just give it some extra with a a:hover/a:active over effect (just css)

- remove the underline from links and give them a nice look other than default blue.

- I would put the text "...sell locally.." align left. and flip the photo horizontaly unless your focusing on the Hebrew language. nice grey text btw.

- I would also add something to let them get started right away. a small banner next to the scrolldown menu. Something like : "ready to sell your books?... what are you waiting for" (info: choose your state to get started)

in a nutshell your front page should be the eye catcher, text doesn't sell sex, images and and a nice eyecatcher do

I agree with that ^, and would like to add one thing: The two images in the header are different heights . . .

This thread is more than a year old. Please don't revive it unless you have something important to add.
