Christian F.
After seeing most word processors in action, I somewhat doubt that one, Jesi. Especially when it comes to anything not English. Anyway, to get this back on topic: I was thinking about mathematics. So using mathematics to separate a computer from a human isn't really going to work. Unless you make a calculation so advanced only a savant or a computer could solve it, within a reasonable amount of time. Though, I don't think that'll be a very effective counter-measure against spam as much as scaring off people completely.
Jessica
In case you really didn't get it, it was a commentary on you missing thing. Lots of sites use math captchas. They're not the most effective, but for a small traffic site, it's friendlier than the random letters/numbers text thing.
jcbones
For a small site, I tend to steer clear of typed captcha's, and prefer other forms of form security. Tokens, honeypots, etc. I do this, because even I (who understands why captchas are a must) will leave a low traffic site, if it requires a typed captcha to comment, or join.
