I want PHP code to let me do similar to wetransfer - where you can just upload files by dropping them into the browser window.

You can email a link or just get a link

Files get automatically deleted after xx time

The whole concept seems super simple. I thought there would be plenty of open source code doing the same out there?

Cant find any. I have found one script - only $17 - no problem buying - but just thought there are bound to be well developed free open source code?

Thanks

Well-developed, free, open-sourced code that happens to do exactly what you want and precisely how you want to do it? If I put it that way, does it make it clearer as to why you haven't found it yet?

HTML 5 has a drag and drop API you would use to get the file uploaded. Storing the file works just like any other file upload. Expiration is a matter of using a cronjob to run a script which finds and deletes old files.

A quick google search for open source php file manager turned up with the following: http://www.osfilemanager.com/

Seems like you could use this, along with the suggestions requinix has made to accomplish what you want, assuming you have the PHP skills to use and edit this open source manager.
