jcombs_31
It really doesn't matter much which OS you decide to use. taith
95% of the servers in the world are linux... that much said... its really down to preference, but linux has been known to parse faster and be a "little" less tempermental... I have found freeBSD on the web that looks interesting Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/52850-solved-what-os-is-good-to-host-a-php-and-mysql-data-driven-website/#findComment-260957 Share on other sites
jcombs_31
pretty much any linux distro is free to download, you can pay if you wish to get it on disk. Where did you get those statistics from? I don't know the real numbers, but I seriously doubt that 95% of all servers run Linux. IIS has a 30% market share according to Wikipedia's 'Web server' article IIS does not run on Linux. Here are some other statistics and surveys: http://news.netcraft.com/archives/2007/05/01/may_2007_web_server_survey.html http://www.securityspace.com/s_survey/data/200610/index.html Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/52850-solved-what-os-is-good-to-host-a-php-and-mysql-data-driven-website/#findComment-260974 Share on other sites
448191
There are also a number of php extensions that are not available on windows. The Process Control functions spring to mind.
