That adaptive payments API is interesting - Is this something new? I have a requirement for payment splitting coming up, so I I'll look further into this an an option. Thanks for the link, too

As far as I'm aware, IPN is only used for reporting on payments that you have received - I'm not sure there is even anything in their API offerings that allows you to send money, other than refunds, of course...

We have unlimited bandwidth.
Well, no. You're limited to 6.5 Mbps... Depending on your traffic, that may or may not be an insignificant limitation though.
Also, that is downstream... If this is residential (A)DSL, I'm assuming the upstream is less than 1Mb/s. That's where the issue is, as you're serving pages, not being served them.

Their online returns is fine. I bought a MacMini from them a few years back, it got delivered and wouldn't boot, just had fans running full whack. Called them up, they agreed that it didn't sound right, sent a courier the next morning and I had a replacement the day after. Luck of the draw I guess.
I think you get what you pay for though - My MacBooks are proper solid, never had an issue with them. Every other laptop I have had from the likes of HP, Toshiba, Samsung etc. always seem to be unstable and unreliable.

Interesting choice to go for enthusiast hardware over conventional server focused components - I guess you get more raw performance per dollar, but compromising on stability, reliability and server based features such as registered / ECC RAM, hot-swap drive interface (are you sure the P55 chipset supports SATA hot swap?), faster drives and interfaces (SCSI / SAS), redundant PSUs, hardware RAID (debatable, I personally prefer software RAID), remote management interfaces, etc.
I think you have a lot of resources to consume before you think about building a second, similarly spec'd server, you could easily run a couple of hundred small 'mom-and-pop' websites from something like that, if that is your target audience.
I probably wouldn't recommend overclocking a system that is to be used as a 24/7 server - You're increasing the risk of component failure and shortening the components lifespan. You probably went a bit overboard on the PSU too, surely a decent 600W would power that set-up!
I think the net connection is a bit of a concern, assuming that 6.5Mb/s is downstream, upstream figures are more what you should be looking at for this kind of application (slightly less if this is SDSL) - It doesn't quite match up with the server spec. You have hardware that could potentially serve hundreds of small websites, but a connection that couldn't handle the required bandwidth for them all.
If this were me, I would have invested in a rackmount server and paid for co-location at a proper data centre.

Yeah, I don't see the point in it. I already have an iPhone, I don't need a bigger one that does less.

The Alexa traffic stats are calculated from visits to websites where the user has the Alexa toolbar installed into their browser as far as I'm aware. This could easily cause different stats to those recorded by the web server itself.

yup right all above are fine with ubuntu. but how would you solve the space problem? The lack of space which prevents the installation of digital tuner cards.
No one has mentioned a requirement for digital tuner cards... Besides, you'd just throw in another hard drive.
With regards to the original question - I've been using Ubuntu properly since 6.06 and I have no issues with it. I run it on almost all of my "desktop" machines, and all of my servers.

I use ImageMagick for things like resizing as it takes less code and does the job faster, I find.

That's got to be a joke. Surely?

You posted in the wrong section, so it was moved. Dunno where the redirect link went.

I delete any redirect links from this board. They waste just as much space as an irrelevant thread. The board description says: This is NOT a help forum! - In bold!

Drop shipping puts a lot of responsibility in your hands. It's pretty much selling someone elses stock, but you deal with all of the customers. I'd look into affiliate marketing, you display the products on your own site, but the user clicks through to the merchants site and you get a commission for the sale.

...because I thought they could work well on a project...
Do they no longer work well for a project then? Why not develop them?
-
Yeah, that's been either dropped, stood on, or hit with something heavy. The screen will have to be replaced, at least.

I've got it and only really played it within the first week I got my PS3. It's a fun game, and I think I made my way though all of the levels that it came with, but I thought all of the user created ones I tried we're pretty unimaginative and boring. It's a laugh going into the level editor and making ramps etc. and jumping them with a rocket powered turkey with wheels. Heh.

Your machine does not meet the minimum system requirements of that game. You can't upgrade it to meet the requirements either.

Brilliant. I'm a fan of the classics... "Compiling", "Butterflies", you know the deal

I've had a quick play with it before one someone elses server, but couldn't really see the benefit. Like thorpe, I just do everything via the shell.

A signed integer, 2147483647 will be the W2K38 bug. Lets leave the problem for our children to deal with.

I've been subscribed to his YouTube channel for a while now, quite entertaining. I like the odd movie review he does here and there too.
