I am sure this has been discussed before but how about having a paid forum help section which would involve guaranteed response time (lets say some time frame has been established). This way PHP Freaks makes some extra revenue, and users like me get our "PHP fixes" faster.

What do you guys think?

I'm not sure if you realize this, but no one that uses these forums actually works for PHPFreaks, so PHPFreaks would be earning money off of other peoples generosity. For this to work, the people that are providing the help would need to be the ones getting paid, and for this, you could use the freelancing forum.

A system that allowed anyone to help (and get paid) would have too many variables. Who gets paid if multiple people give you the right answer? What if someone correctly answers your question first, and then someone comes along and also answers your question but gives you a better response or more in-depth information? What if two people answer different parts of your question, etc. You can start to see how this wouldn't work brilliantly.

All I am saying is that the site strives to make money using advertisements and that for paying members it would be nice to have a section where they can ask questions and get priority responses. Maybe PHPfreaks.com can pay members that are the most helpful and what not based on answers that are successfully resolved. Any how just a suggestion on how it could be a win win situation.

If you are in a money wasting mood then by all means donate ;)

PS phpfreaks.com provides an IRC-chat #help not sure how many lurkers it has but it should give you an edge in getting you the answer

Bare in mind that donating will by no means get you help any quicker. The chances are that nobody who is likely to help you will even know you donated.

Don't you get a flashy banner under your name saying donator or something? I thought you did.

Even with a "flashy banner" under a donator's name, you can't see that from the thread listing pages.

As for guaranteed response times, what about all of the awful questions that get asked which are impossible to answer: would a fast response of "please, take a while to construct an actual, clear, concise question" be enough to satisfy the requirements?

The IRC chat would be a good (free) way to get quick responses to simple questions (for getting out to the biggest audience, including code, fully explaining a question, etc. the forums are still the very best way to get help) except very, very few people frequent the IRC help channel and even fewer are around often to help, and those who are around might not be able to give any insight into your question (resulting in "go post on the forums").

This thread is more than a year old. Please don't revive it unless you have something important to add.
