It is all trashed anyways (given the zero day exploits). You are better off just not downloading or running anything on your computer. Besides, that argument is sort of like saying there is nothing wrong with eating rotten food just because there are other ways to get sick. Some protection is always better than no protection at all. The user just needs to know that he is not guaranteed security because he is running AV software, because it's impossible making any such guarantee.
