I am looking for a free .MOV converter. I have searched all over the web for a *FREE* one, but I am having no luck. I would just like to make some videos in windows movie maker, but my camcorder only outputs files in .MOV format. Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

I know this topic has nothing to do with PHPfreaks, but I didn't know where else to ask.

There are a lot of diffent formats it could be. Let me see if I can find a list...

• Video files: .asf, .avi, .wmv
• Movie files: MPEG1, .mpeg, .mpg, .m1v, .mp2
• Windows Media files: .asf, .wm, .wma, .wmv

The main ones would be the video file types.

You did not search very well then :P

Google search on "mov converter mpeg" gives a lot of results.

Even searching on "hov can i convert mov files to mpeg files?" (without quotes) gets the same site on the top.

I guess you don't understand. I have found many many results off google. I can't find a converter that you can download for free and have forever. All the ones I have found you can only download the trial version, and on those it restricts you so much that you can't even do a transfer. I have looked through page after page of websites, but every single one of them has a cost on their converters.

$20 or whatever is probably not such a bad thing, considering its use to you and the fact that you want it for life.

either way, i did another google search: http://www.google.co...nverter mov wmv

and came up with:
http://www.theinquir...x?article=33380
and
http://www.softpedia...ediaCoder.shtml

which is free (GPL) by the looks of things

hope that helps
