Just an annoucement that PMs have been enabled once again.  There is still a status group called "n00bie" that does not have the ability to SEND PMs... but that's just the way it is.  Once you reach the group "NonSpammer" or anything above that, you will be able to send and recieve PMs.

I would ask that no member abuse the system this time.  If so, that member will be ban instead of turning off the system again. Also note that each indivual (SP?) can lose his/her ability to send PMs.  Carbon Copies and more than 1 reciever has been turned off, to make it harder for spammers.

If you get any spam please email ober or i at:

ron.steelman@phpfreaks.com
ober@phpfreaks.com

Be sure to include the message and who sent it.

:D i had to check my 'status/user level' before i found this, as i thought i'd been promoted haha
definitely a good idea. from time to time, there's always a legitimate reason for sending PM's - be it alerting someone about a major security problem on their site if youre feeling generous, asking a question directly to someone that would otherwise be a waste of a topic, or otherwise. lets hope it doesnt get abused again...

cheers

I say old chap, that is rather amusing!

The only reason why I really cared about the PMs being re-enabled was to allow users to defend themselves against moderation, so I'm glad it's back.  See, I do care about all you little people ;D j/k
Did I help you? Feeling generous? Buy me lunch!
Please, take the time and do some research and find out how much it would have cost you to get your help from a decent paid-for source. A "roll-of-the-dice" freelancer will charge you $5-$15/hr. A decent entry level freelancer will charge you around $15-30/hr. A professional will charge you anywhere from $50-$100/hr. An agency will charge anywhere from $100-$250/hr. Think about all this when soliciting for help here. Think about how much money you are making from the work you are asking for help on. No, we do not expect you to pay for the help given here, but donating a few bucks is a fraction of the cost of what you would have paid, shows your appreciation, helps motivate people to keep offering help without the pricetag, and helps make this a higher quality free-help community :)

I didn't want to test it out, but I believe the bcc field allows you to add more recipients. It should be turned off as well.

If I knew where to disable it, I would.  I don't believe that is an option, but you're more than welcome to test it by sending me a PM with me as the BCC recipient as well.

Ahh, you cant:

You may not send personal messages to more than 1 recipient(s) at once.

The way that the max recipient works is it merges the to and bbc field then it counts to see if there are more recipients than what it's allowed.

Also final will have a few other PM enhancements to prevent all the spam that has been sent recently.

Well there is a limit on the amount of PMs that can be sent in a time frame.  Also CAPTCHA was added to PM is the user has less that x amount of posts.

As for Final there is no ETA on it.  We just release it when it's ready ;).

Well I hope to God it's better than the current Development Edition... we're running that on one of my other sites and it's really buggy.

The CAPTCHA or the PM stuff?  What version of DE are you running?

Powered by SMF Development Edition - CVS 20060912

And it doesn't have the CAPTCHA stuff in it.

Umm those changes were added recently.  Ask Mike (Thantos) to give you the latest version.
