mork
Since few days, I’m struggling with the understanding of encodings. I often see that XML uses UTF-8 or ISO-8859-1 as their encoding. But when should I use which of the two encodings? Is there a easy and simple explanation? requinix
ISO 8859-1 (aka Latin1) is for Western alphabets - eg, not Asian. UTF-8 does Western, Asian, and others, supporting practically everything. I just always use UTF-8: anything in Latin1 can be represented in UTF-8, but the reverse is not true. No crystal balls needed. Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/245525-iso-8859-1-vs-utf-8/#findComment-1261064 Share on other sites

Maq
Same. I almost always use UTF-8, although there are some exceptions. Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/245525-iso-8859-1-vs-utf-8/#findComment-1261069 Share on other sites
