While we're on the Font topic: Having a 'nice' font is critical to setting the scene and theme of a website. Where is the best place to get an overview of the top 50 fonts? I.E. nice different fonts, apart from the system defaults.

Cheers,

-steve

i generally get additional fonts from here:

as for getting a rundown of the nicest/top 50, i think it's a personal taste and very dependent on how it's used - so everyone's top 50 will be vastly different. personally I like Century Gothic for professional stuff, and "typewriter" style fonts for more quirkier news sites.

Given that text on the site will need to be in a font that 'everybody' has, the real creative room is with whatever you can use as graphical text.  I often check the better quality print media for advertising/illustrations on a topic similar to a site, then go with what I learn from advertising that creative people got paid lots for (mind you, sometimes print advertising is crap).

AndyB: Indeed - its font for graphical text that I would be interested in.

jcombs seems to have a flair for nice fonts.

Anyways, thanks for the tip Andy. Will check out some other websites. I hope I wont have to do much guessing at the exact fonts used!

Mark: I used that website before. Its pretty good and helped me track down a Celtic font before. As for the top 50, I suppose I should just keep and eye on digg etc.
