Now that my web crawler has collected a considerable amount of pages (over 20,000), I have decided to open my search engine. My web crawler was designed to search the web for computer related web pages (such as programming, hacking, web design, etc). There is still much more to add (such as better search results). Also, if you find any exploits or bugs (which I know there will be) I ask that you please tell me instead of using them to your benefit. Thanks!

Whoa. That is one ugly site. And not google-ugly, more like "Badly compressed logo with unclear connotations" and "blatant rip-off of Google's layout without even trying something different" and "What the !&$@ is this?"

ugly. Not to mention the useless "Show/Hide News" button and the non-functioning links. Go back to the drawing board, dude; if you plan to make a search engine, at least try and make something new out of it instead of looking like Yet Another Google Clonetm.

Hm, did I mention that it's not finished or was I just dreaming that? Also, who really cares if the layout is similar to Google? It doesn't affect the functionality of the search engine, so it doesn't matter. Also, if you bothered to read the news, you could have reported that link instead of complaining about it.

<sarcasm>

And "I'm just another Google clone" because so many people actually write their own web crawler.

</sarcasm>

mod edit: obscenity removed

Calm down, please. All right now, time to clear things up; YES the web crawler thing is impressive; but that doesn't really pardon all the things that are frankly fairly wrong. For example, the link thing? That falls under the category of "Things that are easily avoided"; truncate the string or something. Look, the basic idea is, what you have isn't new in any way, shape, or form. It's tired and done better by many other people. The basic idea here is to at least try and bring in something new, instead of just the same old things, or, to reinvent the wheel into something better.

I don't necessarily disagree with anything you said moberemk, however you could have gone about it much more tactfully. There was no reason to be rude. He's clearly new to the forums and I've got a feeling he's not going to spend much time around here now. It's just not good for the community to act that way.

Look, I'm sorry that I was rude; I didn't intend to come off as sounding that rude, just a little overly sarcastic. But my points do stand; while I may not have stated them in the most tactful manner, but that doesn't change my opinion that you really do need to do a whole let of rethinking about many parts of your site.

Wow no search box or anything.

"What the !&$@ is this?"
Gonna have to second that.

I'm guessing your site is either completely broken, or for some stupid reason you have purposefully prevented it from working unless people allow you to run javascript on their computers.

I'd give you an A for effort, except it really doesn't seem like much effort was put into it sorry (no offense).

This thread is more than a year old. Please don't revive it unless you have something important to add.
