At Home Web Hosting?

I did exactly this for a long time untill we moved to an area where broadband is no longer available. Even with a 64kb upstream my modest blog ran fine.

Its a fair amount of work to keep stuff secure though. I had two machines, both running linux, one as a firewall and one the server.

It's not worth doing it yourself... you can get cheap hosting packages for <$10 a month... so why bother?

Because it can be fun, educational and you are in complete control.

If you're doing this for anything other than fun/education, you should do it right.  Otherwise, it doesn't really matter.  Besides, lease a server, and you'll have complete control.
