Does anyone here have any experience doing this? If so, do you think that it is a worthwhile experience? zq29 Posted November 22, 2007 Share Posted November 22, 2007 It depends what you want to use it for, if you're expecting thousands of users a day, it's not a good idea as your bandwidth is limited by your ISPs upstream. trq Posted November 22, 2007 Share Posted November 22, 2007 I did exactly this for a long time untill we moved to an area where broadband is no longer available. Even with a 64kb upstream my modest blog ran fine. Its a fair amount of work to keep stuff secure though. I had two machines, both running linux, one as a firewall and one the server. I might end up hosting a really small businesses site there too...Mostly, I want to do this as a learning experience on how servers work etc. How did you make your computers servers? Besides, lease a server, and you'll have complete control.
