hey guys

i've used paypal sandbox to test my IPN.  i'm saving all the data coming from IPN to mysql database.

i've notice when i transfer 0.3 $  with my donation button  (all in sandbox)  , the paypal fee is 0.3 $ . meaning the payment amount and payment fee are equal . so in other words nothing i have recieved!

before i go live , i want to make sure about this thing .

i'm recording the amount each user of the site transfers,  if paypal is taking 0.3 of 0.3 , so i would put a notice on the site that users can not transfer less than 0.3 $ .

i've put it on paypal foru , but no answer. it has been one week!

thanks

imo paypal support sucks. If it were me I wouldn't accept less than $1. Most of the time when people donate they do it in $5 increments. Meaning that you could see a $5 or $10 donation but are not likely to see $7. I really doubt anyone would donate $0.30.

yea, but it was my mistake . it is kinda donate it is not exactly like donating  , it is just transfering money , to buy something later ...

so maybe i will need to get the very 0.01$ .

so i really wanna know PayPal is this much stupid to make a fee of the whole amount ?

Did you expect PayPal to provide all their services for free?  I would have thought it obvious that there's a minimum transaction fee (and if it's only 30 cents it's a pretty good deal).

But just taking the whole amount as fee is kinda funny and stupid to me.

Sigh.

PayPal has a minimum service fee. If you transfer less than the service fee, of course PayPal will appear to have taken the whole amount. Quite why that strikes you as funny and stupid is beyond me.

If you don't like their service, find another one. Or create your own - remember to set the service fee to near zero so you don't upset people :)

have YOU created paypal ? or work for them or something ?

i've just came up with a question about paypal fees. You can clear me about that. But it seems you have taken my question as an insult.

Sigh.

are you tired? is this the 1000th stupid question you've heard today?

i've just created a "friendly" thread here , sorry for the stupid question . make a sticky thread about " if you think even a little your question is stupid , so don't even ask!"

I think I can say with some certainty that Andy wasn't insulted by your question, and that he wasn't insulting you. He is, however, expressing curiosity as to how a fairly standard business practice is stupid to you. They are a business, after all, and they are in it to make money.

And if you foresee customers needing to pay $0.30 or less for something, you could always just raise your rates for those items by $0.30.
