Javascript... not using any script - I can't think of anything off the top of my head. Why do you need it to where you can't run the PHP script?
-
Well, are you including different files, or all from the same file?
-
Ah, why not? I've been trying to be a little more active here. You can thank Crayon Violent for me being here and annoying you all. I'm the youngest one in this topic so far (that I could find) at the age of 17. I got into web design a 4-5 years ago, with the all famous Geocities and tripod accounts, with the 'great' website builders. I don't know if I would really consider that my start... However, 3 years ago I started learning HTML and built a few smaller websites with friends. Then, I met CV and started to work on the game, learning more than just HTML, he kicked started me learning PHP. Around the same time, I started working for a website (Savefile.com) and have been helping out on the forums there for over 1.5 years now. I started my own project (which I don't have hosting for right now) called Bookmark Mania, where users could store their bookmarks online, and visit them anywhere. That is where most of my PHP knowledge came from. Small facts about me: -Live just outside of Austin, TX in a small community. -Drum Major of our band -Lead trumpet -Head Crew for theatre -Photographer -Socom 3 Addict (ps2) -Planning on going to UT-Austin to get a doctoral in Electrical & Computer Engineering.

I had the same problem. One of my friends decided it would be 'fun' to click my ads as many times as he could. Got an email from Google, appealed, they replied "sorry", I appealed again... no response. It sucks.

Yup, that's how I had to do it:
<?php $id = '1'; include('folder/file.php'); ?>
Very nice and clean, the way I like them :) Agreed with the pop-up though. Keep up the nice work :)

I have some of the same feelings as above: - The blue is too harsh, needs a lighter. This may not be what you want, but I like the blue on the "Quick Reply" box here on this forum. I feel that could fit your site better... keep the gradients though. - Simplicity is key. The easier it is to navigate, the better. The // TITLE \\ links are hard to read and I feel it should all be kept (as much as possible) on one line, and not broken into 2. If you have this many links, then you need to sit down and figure out how you can break them down even better. Maybe use even more general Main categories and then use sub-cats. -The main bar ( // LITERARY DEVICES // ABOUT // LINKS // CONTACT // BLOG ) the font is too obnoxious. Don't use all caps, italicization and a bigger font all in one shot. - Too much info on the front page. Narrow it down to less than 4 quotes, and make them smaller. - Your introduction (Welcome to Vacant Lot - the site that aims to put hip-hop quotables in a modern context...) to the site is at the bottom. Why? That should be at the top, above everything else. After that put like one or two sections with a quote of the week or what not. Now to move onto to an actual page from your site... (I'm just going to use examples from the "Freedom & Self-Fulfillment " section) - 2 Menus? One up top and then one off to the side... that's really confusing. Make it simpler for the user. - I'm not a big fan of the table outline for the main content area. - Speaking of frames... Try using CSS, it makes everything easier to update later on. I used to love tables, but as soon as I started to use CSS, I changed. It might take a little longer to get it perfect, but thats a small price to get more visitors... Just some advice. This might come out a little harsh but, your site does need some work if you want to keep a large number of visitors coming to it. "Also, any advice on how to generate traffic? exposure?" - Work on your layout for a while, make it just right.. don't slap it together and expect everyone to flock to your site. If you can make them go "WOW, this site looks awesome" and make it mostly functional you will keep them coming back, and word of mouth will do all the work for you. You'll just have to try different things to start it off. --Remember, none of this advice is here to offend you. It's to help you succeed.

1) What do you think of the "interests" link? Do you feel like it appropriately identifies the page that it is linking to (also taking into account the link's title attribute)? -I feel they fit appropriately 2) What do you think of the actual "Interests | Favorites" page itself? (see http://kilbad.com/index.php?id=favorites) - I love simplicity, but I feel it is lacking something... Maybe use some more color variety? Or an image, I'm not sure. 3) Do you have any other feedback about my site? Any feedback is greatly appreciated! -I do like the copyright symbol, with the way you did that. :)

This is already in place with the SMF board system. Look underneath "Author" and "Topic: Currently Viewing (Read X Times)" It will say something like
KingPhilip and 0 Guests are viewing this topic.
It won't be live updating or anything, and you can only view it if you are viewing that topic... but it is better than nothing :) -
one thing i would suggest is using rollover images, to change the color on the nav...
I agree on that :) Otherwise, nice job, turned out good :)

You have to have X posts (whatever they set it as) It will be under the user's name on the left side and will look like:
Karma: +2/-0 [applaud] [smite]
:)

So I might have been a little rude too, sorry. Oh, and if you didnt notice, Karma is back ;)

wait so koobi are you saying that you, as a mod, shouldn't have to read posts before responding to them, because you aren't paid? that doesn't sound like proper mod attitude... edit: i'm not trying to start some kind of fight here..that's just the impression i just got. please clarify if that's not what you meant?
nobody reads every post on every thread. i have no time these days. i read the part of the discussion you quoted me on. if you want me to read a part of your post which you quoted someone else on, then you should say so. why would i want to read the part of the post you quoted someone else on? my discussion is with you, not with the other person you qouted the post on. if it's a critical thread of course i'd read the entire thread but this is just a discussion about karma...which i think has gone a little too far...
Like I said in the beginning, I feel like most people are here are rude. I'm sorry, but I really don't want to come back here because of your attitude. You might not take me seriously because I don't have posts on this forum, but dont mistake me for not being mature or responsible. I've had plenty of times working under pressure, with no time, limited supplies and I can pull out just fine. Do I tell the people that are looking up to me that I don't have time for them? No, I don't, I at least TRY to make time. I don't know if I'm going to come back here ever again, because it seems like some of the staff are complete donkeys (if you know what I mean.)
-
I hate to break it to you, but I don't get paid either ;)

Ok, I would like to jump in right here. This is a little offtopic but, I'm going to be completely honost here: I've always seen most people on PhpFreaks as rude, because when I was learning I would search around, not find my question, so I would ask. I seemed to get responses like "Oh someone already asked that, look around," but I did... I work with customer support on another site, the one thing I make sure to do is address each problem, and read the post completely. If I know I don't have time to read it all, I'll wait until I do. Saying stuff like
unfortunately i didn't have time to read your entire post so i'll just reply to what you quoted me on.
just gives the impression to me like you don't have time for this site. Yes, we all have outside lifes... well, for the most part, but you don't ever tell the customer that. Anyways, I think something like the Karma mod for SMF would be nice, maybe just the user that put up the topic could say "Was this user helpful in this topic? Yes/No/Undecided." It serioulsy can't be that hard to make your own mods for this site, I mean come on its phpFreaks!!! Basically, something like the karma mod would be nice imo :)
