Rest?! Tell that to my boss! Nah, I agree. Hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday!

I personally like how they use an image over and over instead of just stretching it: <img src="/images/pframe/silver_classic/top_center.gif" width="1" height="29" border="0" alt="" hspace="0" vspace="0"> <img src="/images/pframe/silver_classic/top_center.gif" width="1" height="29" border="0" alt="" hspace="0" vspace="0"> <img src="/images/pframe/silver_classic/top_center.gif" width="1" height="29" border="0" alt="" hspace="0" vspace="0"> <img src="/images/pframe/silver_classic/top_center.gif" width="1" height="29" border="0" alt="" hspace="0" vspace="0"> <img src="/images/pframe/silver_classic/top_center.gif" width="1" height="29" border="0" alt="" hspace="0" vspace="0"> <img src="/images/pframe/silver_classic/top_center.gif" width="1" height="29" border="0" alt="" hspace="0" vspace="0"> <img src="/images/pframe/silver_classic/top_center.gif" width="1" height="29" border="0" alt="" hspace="0" vspace="0"> <img src="/images/pframe/silver_classic/top_center.gif" width="1" height="29" border="0" alt="" hspace="0" vspace="0"> <img src="/images/pframe/silver_classic/top_center.gif" width="1" height="29" border="0" alt="" hspace="0" vspace="0">

I'm guessing you want to plug the USB adapter into your PC, and essentially let the PC act as a wireless router?

There's a comparison between him and gay sheep? Hey now: that's offensive. To the sheep. Actually, that's a pretty common thing for CV to watch, so I think it might actually be a compliment... o.O

Take a look at Wordpress

Sure, that's definitely a good point. I am a strong believer that people learning need to practice while they learn. On client projects? Depends on the person, but I'll typically have new team members try to do something then I'll look over it and give feedback. This takes more time, but I know they are more likely to do better on the next one. Currently I'm a design usability consultant, and mmmm this doesn't sit well with me. However, I'm not going to really bother with this point. It's becoming clear you do both backend and frontend for your clients... is that correct? If so, then yeah I can understand alt attributes being the highest priority. However, most projects I've worked on we've had a team for the backend, and a team for the frontend (design/html/css) who DID worry about it. But again, for a one person team... mmm I suppose. Yeah, I still do this on occasion, and then kick myself later for it (underbidding.) That just comes with time to learn how much one's time really is worth.

While there is some truth to that, I really hope when I hire a roofer he doesn't do a half-assed job just to get paid. When I pay somebody, I expect the work to be done right and be high quality. It's the same with web development. When I get a job, I do it right, but I'm still getting paid. Sure it might take a few extra hours to bring it to a higher standard, but you know what... it's worth it. Even if the client doesn't give 2 shits if it validates or if it is the newest and latest coolest thing, I still know. It lets me be proud of my work, and makes me wanna keep doing what I do. Oh, and as far as using objects/functions goes; using them for code re-usability is really to help you out and save you time, so honestly that IS something I'd worry about too. Anyways, I wonder if your roof looks like this:

How to add preview button with code in my website.
Philip replied to shah network's topic in Application Design
If all that is changing is the CSS, then use a JS style changer. A good article on it: http://www.alistapart.com/articles/alternate/ -
I like to stick to the ZF coding standards as much as possible. http://framework.zend.com/manual/en/coding-standard.coding-style.html Of course there are a few changes that I make myself, but yeah. Having a standard will help you out later when you come back to your code to fix/tweak it

Prototyping, small applications, and applications built for pure speed all could have an advantage using procedural over object oriented. Here is an example, since you oh-so-badly want one where oop isn't really worth it... and don't tell me you'd rather do the object oriented version because that is a load of BS. <?php echo "Hi there!"; ?> vs. <?php class speak { public function sayHello( ) { return "Hi There"; } } $talking = new Speak; echo $talking->sayHello(); ?> Oh and.. You're saying OOP is the only way to do things? Way to think outside the box!
-
lol wtf are you smoking? In any case, both OOP and procedural have their own place in the world. In this case, it would probably be better to use OOP, but again it's a matter of opinion.

As long as it is efficient, you won't have a problem. Hell, look at the bottom of these pages... "Page created in 0.03 seconds with 29 queries.". Granted, the MySQL server is its own, but still...

Search Engine Friendly urls for CMS without mod rewrite?
Philip replied to binarywebs's topic in Application Design
You could compact that down a bit. I'll see if I can post an example when I can keep my eyes open for more than 30 seconds -
Ever heard of subpixel rendering? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subpixel_rendering

I've hated* cats for 21 years. Does that count? * - I don't actually hate them.... they just don't play nice with me.

It probably isn't the only option, but may I ask why you want to deviate away from it? -

Sooo.... are you saying you'd eventually have a bunch of nearly empty index.php's through a bunch of directories? -
You know Pikachu is just getting this:

The CPU will show a certain type of socket and power rating. Each motherboard will clearly state what socket(s) they are compatible with. PSU - typically 600W will do you just fine, unless you want to do hardcore gaming, have dual graphics/overclock... which in this case I don't think you will. I suggest looking into ones that are 80% certified as they [typically] run cooler, quieter and save you energy. Case - Most mid towers are plenty of room for the average joe, and even most gamers. I have a full ATX tower, but I'm constantly tweaking my hardware, so I like to have the extra space + the extra breathing room for my components. When you're putting everything together, remember to just take a deep breath and take your time.

Instead of just reading the book, why not follow along and try coding examples / topics that are covered as you read? Anyways, find a project/idea that interests you and try to make your own version of it. Common first programs are blogs, games, etc.

Hover-over ads for dog food? Really?

Fair enough. Sorry for accusing you then I think you could do quite a bit off of this especially with affiliate marketing. Example: http://www.thinkgeek.com/affiliates/ -
Hover-over ads for dog food? Really?
Philip replied to ManiacDan's topic in PHPFreaks.com Website Feedback
And you really thought a full page ad was a good idea? Especially one that loads a movie and auto plays sound? Come on, you know better than that. As far as ideas - why not do the obvious and reposition your current ads? Example, the bottom of posts you have 2 ads. IMO it's a waste because most people only read the first few posts, right? Why doesn't this one use a leaderboard, or look more like a real post? Finally, I agree with Nightslyr. If you want feedback or ideas, ask for it, but otherwise don't be too surprised if you're going to have people bitchin about things because random shit is thrown on the site. -

Philip replied to ManiacDan's topic in PHPFreaks.com Website Feedback
I dunno which prefer more... irrelevant ads about dog food inline, or full page ads that auto play videos. This is what I got a few minutes ago: http://i56.tinypic.com/99gahy.jpg
