  1. There isn't much to be said about critiquing a personal site.  Because it is PERSONAL, all opinions on what should be done to the site are just that, opinions.  The target audience is yourself.  If you are happy with the site design, then there is nothing we can say here as to the design.

  2. The biggest question ANY psychotic - sorry...psychic - will ask is "Why do you feel this way?"

I personally know how you feel.  It is kinda freaky to feel haunted, but there are a few ways to get rid of it.

    1) When you first had the feeling, was there a loss (family, friend, neighbor, etc.)?

    2) Did you start having nightmares involving this haunting? If yes, do they center around a specific object, person, etc.?

If you can answer these questions, I may be able to help.  Mine involved nightmares, but I have controlled them enough to get by peaceably.

  3. You have a really good site design.  It takes a while to load, but that could be my internet connection.  You may want to check the spelling on your drinks.  I tried to look up a fuzzy navel and it said fozzy navel.

Very innovative.  You may want to make it in other languages as well! ;)

  4. A few questions that must be answered:

1 - What is the point of the site?

2 - Why would people want to go there?

3 - What do you have to offer the viewing public?

4 - How is this going to benefit them (the users)?

Answer these to get the basics of site design (at least that is what I am told).  If you cannot answer these questions with your front page . . . redesign it so it does.

  5. What I was trying to point out is that above the

There was a problem with your login details, wrong username and/or password
    there is a (in green)
    Welcome You are now Logged-In!
header (or whatever you want to call it).  If it were customized properly, you should see something like "Welcome, but you must inter the proper username and password to login."  Other wise it just gets confusing (am i logged in or not?).
  6. Besides the headache-inducing text and lack of any usable information, I would say that this site has potential, BUT not for me!

You don't state whether this is for the PC gaming community, Console gaming community or both.  The one clan page I checked out had a very bad graphic header (pixelated and unreadable).

There is also a flaw with your login.  I pressed it without putting in any information and the page gave a "Welcome you are logged in" type thing.  That in itself is bad web design.

Your navigation links are so close together that I thought it was a bad sentence.  Once you go to the forums, there is no way out.  You don't have a link to take you back to the landing page.

All-in-all, its just bad design.  Try again some other time.

  7. I would have to say it is a major improvement over the original.  It is clean and direct.  The header could use a face lift, but as I said earlier, it is a better improvement.

I actually like the simple design.  For a school site, I think it is great!

  8. You should use centering of the page.  It DOES look cut off at a higher res and sticks to the left.  The gray on the right is annoying.

Not to be a copy writer, but you should explain (either before or after, using ()) what ESHO stands for.  A lot of people don't look at the logo to find out what the acronym stands for.

the pictures on the right do not stay in their selective frames.  Seams to have a run over.

Other than that, it is looking very friendly.

  9. I would agree with bilis_money.

If you get into a pissing match, make sure you wear a rain coat. ~Anonymous

If you feel he is going to take it to the courts, check with a lawyer or legal adviser to see what rights you have.  You could also change the code that you have done to make it so he cannot use it.

Since we don't understand what started the whole thing, an unbiased opinion cannot be made as to what course should be taken.  Was this other person a good friend that decided to turn on you?  Maybe its just jealousy.

Whatever happens, don't stoop to his level.

  10. The brown is a killer for me.  You should use a softer, more inviting color for the main area.  The more link on the left hand side is a little bright, it doesn't work with the brown.  The green is okay, but kill the brown.  It doesn't fit anywhere with the color scheme.

You should put a divider line between your testimonials and your main content.

  11. Actually . . . I hate to say this, but, a lawyer friend of mine told me that if you send it Certified Signature Mail (so it has a date, a signature, and proof of being mailed), the courts can, in fact, use this as proof of original works.  But, I think it is only for written works (books, movie scripts, songs, etc.).  I don't know what the rules are for programs and code, but I would think they are similar.

But then again, you still have to prove that you created the work BEFORE the other person.

  12. I am starting to sense a little hostility in the air.

There are a lot of people (like me) who grew up knowing nothing BUT Windows.  It stems from (in my case, anyways) listening to my father tell me

Windows is for the practical man, and is the only operating system you will ever need!

Not knowing that there are other OSes out there, you tend to stick with what you know.  And then there is the flame wars.  Just because you like a particular OS, it doesn't make it the best.  Everybody has there own opinion on what is best, and the only way to find out is to try it for yourself.

Do you skip over movies because a critic only gave it one star?

  13. based on the little you've said about "the man," i doubt giving him the math behind the possible combinations involved would help.
    My point exactly!

I am not sure if you actually think there's a problem with your script or you just posted this thread because you are pissed from what your boss told you
    The latter.

He doesn't understand what goes on with the web.  He thinks that I can wave my Harry Potter wand and make everything comply to the wishes of a few whiners.

I didn't mean for this post to become a topic of fixing the code, I just wanted to know if other people have had a problem with a "higher-up" telling you that they don't know how your code works.  I've been through this before, and it is very, VERY annoying.  You can't explain to the technically deficient that the preset algorithms are working fine, they just don't know why.

Hence the title.  I would love to tell "the man" to bite my shiny metal ***, but then I wouldn't be able to support my wife and two kids.  I sure hope he can read this (though I doubt he goes to this forum)!

  14. You are forgiven.  I wasn't using the rand() function.  I am using the shuffle() function.  I just think it's because he can't update his browser.  I know he is using an older version of IE (5, I think) and because our company is too damn cheap to put legal Windows software on the computers, no one can update to IE7.  I don't have that problem . . . I use Firefox 2.

I also notice that there is also a slight time delay for refreshing.  If you push the refresh button too soon (like right after the screen finishes loading), then the "people" will not change.  If you give it a few seconds after loading, then they change fine.

As I tried to explain to "the man", the shuffle() function can only do so much with such a small number to be randomized.  Of course if you hit the refresh button a million times per second (ha ha), then you are sure to get the same order of "people".

Some day's your the windshield, and others your the bug.

  15. on the google ones, do you have to upload the file? to get it changed? because its a whole movie, and that would take hours
I don't think that is what we mean.  Look up "Video Conversion" in Google!

Edit: Dang! SA beat me to the punch!

  16. He said that there are a lot of repeats when he clicks on the button or refreshes.

Well . . . what do you expect when you are filling 5 slots with 9 names and 3 slots with 6 names.  There is bound to be repeats and they are bound to go into the same slot they were in before you hit the refresh button every now and then.  I have never seen a problem with it when I go through and hit the refresh button.

I think what it is is that the random "people" who come up, some do come up more often then others.  When "competing people" look on the site and hit the refresh, they feel they are being cheated out of time in the list.  So the "boss" chews me out for it.

If you set up a program that takes the numbers 1-9 and tell it to display 5 numbers randomly, there will be times when you get 2, 7, 4, 8 and 1 in that order.  Some times 7 and 4 will show up, in that order, twice in a row.  That is how it happens.

I don't know.  Maybe he just wants to get the "people" out of his hair about not showing up as often as others do.

    Oh well. ::)

  17. Has this happened to you?

You wake up one morning feeling that nothing can go wrong . . . and then you get to work (or school).  You have worked long and hard on a function in PHP that shuffles elements and plugs them into slots that were requested.  You spent hours, days, weeks, maybe even months on this program and it works as it is supposed to (thanks to your online friends at phpfreaks).

You upload it and everything is great and (almost) everyone is happy.  Then it strikes.  The hosting service decides to drop you without warning.  Your website loses traffic for 3 days because they don't want to talk to your company's web rep.  So the main man decides to pull it internal.

Now here is what gets me.  The program works like a charm, even after being put on an internal server, but the "boss" decides that "it isn't random enough".  How could something not be random enough?  It isn't like I went through and created the algorithm that tells it how to shuffle.  I just used the standard command and it worked fine for him until we moved it internally.

I get my *** handed to me for the things I cannot control.  Me, being the friendly person that I am, decide to tell him I will try and work on it.

How would you handle this situation?
