Website in the works, would like some critique

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am working on a redesign of my current website and am wondering what everybody thinks of the progress.

I have a few things I am mainly wanting critique on:

1.)What do you thing of the new logo compared to the old one, does it blend better?

2.)What do you think of the layout and colors compared to the old one?

3.)If you have javascript enabled, what do you think of the way items are displayed with the javascript?

4.)Is the site easy to navigate?

Feel free to leave any other critique.

**NOTE: the site is still not 100% functional so some links won't work, I am just wanting to know if I am going in the right direction as far as appealing to potential customers**

Here is the before link:

Here is the after link:

If you wish to login to the client area and have a look around I have provided a demo login:

Username: demo@insta-hosting.com

Password: demo

Thanks all, this will help me alot.

Allow me to be rude: both suck.

And then you even dare to:

We have detected your browser to be Firefox or similar gecko browser.

This site is optimized for use with Internet Explorer 7.

Functionality for your browser is limited.

You can download Internet Explorer 7 Here

I'm not sure why, the site looks equally horrid on IE 6 and 7.

Both are equally horrid. Though the image seems better for the new one.

2.)What do you think of the layout and colors compared to the old one?

The old colours have more potential.

3.)If you have javascript enabled, what do you think of the way items are displayed with the javascript?

I don't have a clue what I should be looking at.

4.)Is the site easy to navigate?

Sure. The menu could be a little more prominent.

First thing I'd do: get rid of those horrid boxes.

I pretty much agree with the above comments.  The site looks pretty bad in both versions.  To start the colors are pretty bad.  You need to find a good palette.  I also agree the old colors have more potential.  The new version looks pretty depressing.

I think the most important thing is that you have absolutely no grid in either design.  Everything is all over the place and very unorganized.  I'm not sure where you grabbed those little box graphics from but they don't even blend in with the background.  There are white corners.  The text is crammed and hard to read.  You really need to just step back and think about if you really think this is a nice looking website. If you can just get organized first it would take you a long way.

I do agree with you all as far as the boxes, the corners are white because my background was white before, and I am in the works of coming up with something new for them, When refering to the javascript, it is when you click compare or view full feature list, or full price list, I thank you all for your critique, and it will help me make it better. Thank you.

Also regarding the firefox message, that is there because I have noticed things act much different between the browsers, I do do a browser check and have the scripting change to suite the browser as much as possible.

What the hell is this? Don't you know that Firefox is the most standard compliant web browser out on the market? To tell me to use IE7 is like to tell me to throw my BMW out to the junk yard for a box and wheels on it.... which is a horrible trade off.

Actually, Presto and WebKit scores higher on Acid3 than Gecko does (cf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acid3#Layout_engines). Nonetheless, Gecko is still superior to Trident and in my opinion it would be wiser to develop to get it to work in Firefox and then apply hacks so it'll work in Internet Explorer than doing it the other way around.
