So I'm combing through the code at nhl.com and among the heap of garbage, I come across some eye-cringing stuff like this:

<div style="width: 205px; float: left; margin-left: 20px;">

<div style="width: 205px; float: left;">

<div style="width: 205px; float: left;">

<div style="width: 205px; float: left;">

<div style="width: 205px; float: left;">

<div style="width: 205px; float: left;">

<div style="width: 205px; float: left;">

<div style="width: 205px; float: left;">

<div style="width: 205px; float: left;">

<div style="width: 205px; float: left;">

<div style="width: 205px; float: left;">

<div style="width: 205px; float: left;"><a href="http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=413012"><img height="115" width="205" border="0" alt="" src="http://cdn.nhl.com/images/upload/2009/03/Roy_Avs_205x115.jpg" /></a>

<h2><font><font><font><font><font><font><font><font><font><font><font><font><font><font><font lang="en"><font lang="en">Roy ready to back Brodeur<br />

</font></font></font></font></font></font></font></font></font></font></font></font></font></font></font></font></h2>

Should Martin Brodeur equal Patrick Roy's record, he'll be on hand to offer his congratulations.

<div class="btn80Lite" style="margin-top: 8px;"><a href="http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=413012">FULL STORY ›</a></div>

</div>

</div>

I must say, after staring at that for a few moments in disbelief, I can't say I'm any closer in believing otherwise. When I first started venturing into learning web development, I used to think that all those big name professional sports sites and the like are probably doing it right.  8)

Would be really interesting to see what kind of cream of the crop-crap 'Hall of Shame stuff' there is out there.

This forum seems to believe that it's valid xhtml 1.0, or so it says at the bottom of the page.

However, I am yet to find a single page that is valid...

I mean, if your page isn't quite valid, fair enough, but to state that it is when it obviously isn't is just arrogant.

Guess you have to complain to the SMF team.
