d3wey
Hi All Well i'm taking the plunge into my first PHP project so I thought i'd best get involved on a busy PHP forum! A step away from my only real dealings with PHP through a pre-built PHP shopping cart (Cartweaver) thats for sure! What forum page should i post in to get a bit of advice on realistic labour hours to charge the client?! I have noooo idea how long the project I am undergoing 'should' take so a spot of advice would be good! trq
Welcome to the boards. Without any experience writing a php application I think it would be quite rude to charge any client a fee for learning. Your first application will not be well written. This is a skill you gain only through experience I'm afraid. d3wey
Interesting response there. It isn't to say that i'm a complete novice in PHP its just I've not used souly for an application. The other more important thing is that I'm an honest chap so the client was made fully aware at the time of meeting that i am not a programmer.... telling them anything else would be crazy and derogitory on my business reputation. So net result is I have been graced with a patient understanding customer wanting to work with me and a good deal of development time. The reason I asked the question is to get a feel of an honest rate (that doesn't charge them for my learning curve). I appreciate that generally people will charge per hour (as i do) but to be fair on the customer I could charge per line or page of coding? JasonLewis
Are you being serious about charging per line? That just sounds ri-god-damn-diculous. If you are going to charge them (although I really think you shouldn't as you said yourself this is your first PHP project) do it per hour or as a lump sum you can work out with client. See how much they are willing to pay. d3wey
Cheers guys. We've agreed a lumps some (and a tidy one at that) so we'll see how things go i guess.
