I am trying to help my mom with her site and we came across a problem with a Excel Page.

 

My mom had information in a Excel document then clicked somewhere in Excel to make it into a webpage. It made it into a .htm page and when I go to add php to it for the layout it doesn't work - It just shows the layout then and no info.

It works fine without the php stuff. . . but then it doesn't have the layout.

You are not going to get php to work in an .htm file I guarantee it. As for your code I have never seen php like that so...

 

Don't be so sure about that. You *can* configure ANY file to be parsed for PHP code - it is a simple server configuration. But, it is not typical for htm/html files to be set to be sent to the PHP parser.

unless you are 100% certain that the server you are using has been configured to parse htm/html files for PHP you should definitely save the file with a php extension. Also, check the actual source of the displayed page, if you see PHP code then you know that the page wasn't sent to the php parser. But, looking at that code, it doesn't make sense. Everything is wrapped in one giant echo statement - even the PHP logic. So, none of that PHP code would ever be processed whether or not it was sent to the PHP parser.

The best advice I can give you for this is, unfortunately, to scrap the entire HTML code and start anew. Just copy the raw data from the Excel sheet, and then add the HTML and CSS code (manually) to make it what it's supposed to be. Once you've done that, you can add the PHP code you want.

 

Do note, however, that if you want to add your headers and footers you will need to remove the duplicated code from the page. A HTML page should only have one set of HTML, HEAD and BODY tags. What you're getting with the above doubles that. This is probably what's causing most of your issues.

As Psycho said: Always check the resulting HTML code, after running the page through a PHP parser.

 

That said, I only see JS code inside the echo statement, not any PHP code. So I think you might have been confused by all of that JS inside that huge echo statement. Can't say I blame you either, it's a right mess.
