On my site, I was thinking of an advertising methods. I was going to create 3 things Affiliate program - people get a certain percentage of the profits when sending me clients Lots of work program (thinking of a name) - if a client brings me a specific amount of individual projects, they get a certain discount on all future work. Then if they bring me another specific number, they get the next discount some others, like a holiday special on prices. What would I call this entire thing as a whole, I want to just pick the name for one link to appear on the left nav, links to other pages would be in the sub-page. I was thinking programs, I can't just say affiliate program when there is more than that. So what do you think, program, later I might have some stuff that are actually programming programs so don't want to name it that?

Most standard sized, (even dynamic), projects take me about 1 week. Once the layout, and designs are all done, it takes 1 full week of programming, to program something like a 5-10 page dynamic. IT's hard to say, www.oakleyhomebuilders.com I built the backend only, just the admin panel for a site that is about to show up on that url, there new site. THey have these huge entries in the database, I created a full backend, with lot's and lot's of features, it all took me 1 week. Most projects take me 1-3 weeks max, I haven't had anything take me over 3 weeks in a long time.

I am wanting a php.ini file, that is heavily commented. I am wanting one that has all the possible things that can be changes, listed, even if at defaults. That has good explanations of all of the different settings, as well. I am using an old one off the host www.bluehost.com with just the bluehost related comments cut-out, but I want something else. I am wanting one that lists them all, and good commenting on them, so I can reuse it for all my projects. most of my projects allow php.ini access, 99% of them so far I have re-used one of them on, I want to make sure.

I had that, I have a lot from word of mouth, but it's still hard to find new projects sometimes. I always have them at decent intervals, but sometimes it's a couple of days/weeks in between, then I get hit with 2-3, but then it's back to the same afterwards. craigslist brings in almost all of my business, phpfreaks.com is hte rest, but other than that, I need some other sources of advertisement.
-
I use craigslist, the phpfreaks freelancing forums, some other forums. Where are some good places to advertise web development, and get a lot of projects. GetAFreelancer never did anything for me, neither did ScriptLance, or Guru, or any of them, ELance, they are all not helpful, none of them ever got me one project, any advice?

That looked alright, thanksf or the suggestion, looking for something I can install on my server. I thought about what red and ober said, and I think I will go ahead and take that part slowly now. I have something for project management www.activecollab.com that actually does help alot, but maybe a time manager would slow me down, and make me end up spending too much time planning, and less time doing. So I am going to wait until activcolla open up there extension system, then when someoen builds something like that, I can have something small scale in active collab.
-
That is true good point. I am working on a project while looking for a planner, but I understand what you are saying, the time spent planning (which is supose to be time saved by planning)< ends up evening it out in the end anyway. I was told one time, about proejcts, to always super-plan projects, or you get screwed in the middle of them, is there a difference in these 2 situations, or 2 types of planning.
-
How should I do this then. For active collab, I just take care of project information, putting down tasks, and compeleting them, also away to update clients without lots of emails. The other thing, is it helps me keep track of hourly amount of work on each project (when they add in time tracking, how helpful would tracking what I spend what amount of hours working on be. I know a lot of people plan like that, I find myself not having time to do everything because I don't manage my time well enough.
-
Yes butw hen I don't I never get anything done. For instance project management, I compared 2 weeks with it, and 1 week without it, there was a difference. Do you know of any good ones?
-
I use www.activecollab.com to do all my project management. They are even going to add time tracking, plugin support and a lot of other stuff. I installed it on my server. The thing I wanted now, was to install something else on my server, and just link it to my active collab, when I am logged in, and formulate an instant login, that wouldn't be to hard. This is what I need 1. A time management system, sort of liek what's built into hotmail, to keep track of hourly, daily, and weekly, monthly scheduling. So for work I can say from 8-10 I work on this dude's stuff from 10-12 I do some personal calls, some personal time getting important stuff done, then from 12-4 I have a quick meeting with a client, and knock out some of there project then from 4-7 I get finished with this other project, and plan for tomorrow That sort of thing 2. Something I can install on my server 3. Something that is done in php/mysql 4. Something that might be fairly easy for me to mod, or they update regularly 5. Something open source (of course) 6. Something that has the time capabilities as above, but timing like that for every day of the month. Say if I find out I have an appointment to meet someone next friday, I want to be able to go to that date, and record in that time period, what I am wanting to do. Like at 8:00=10:00 on friday, of that 15th of december hmm, I have some free time open, so let me schedule it here, type of thing, and move this back up to tomorrow Hopefully you get the idea of what I want, any advice?

Hmm thanks, that should solve a few of my problems, and make the other mathematics a little safer, with less chances of messing up. Thanks red, and obsidian.
-
Shit, you are right there are no versions of textmate for pc, I looked everywhere? They are working on one, based on a couple of bulliten boards and blogs I saw, hopefully they do, that looks very good.
-
Yes that makes sense, either one of these way may work, I will play with them both, or put up 2 test scenarios, to check the math on both. Thanks guys

I think it would work like this. Stored value = 500.00 Current total = 1000.00 New edited value = 450.00 Database work Pull stored value subtract stored value from total take add editid value back to total so you have 1000 - 500.00 = 500.00 Then you add back in the new edited value 500 + 450 = 950.00 that is the new total, I think that will work each time, won't it.
-
ACtually that is a good idea, thanks Ober, I will.

I am a little confused with what you mean, with this,w hen they delete it's a little different. Once the donations are made theycan't be changed by the person, but it's just there for incase they made mistakes. The numbers can go negative, there is a lot of math here so far. THe structure's already done, it's just on editing, I am confused on what to do calculation wise.
-
Notepad,I thought your favorite was text pad, you probably meant textpad instead of note pad, thanks for the advice, this week, I am going to download and install text pad and see how it goes.
-
"in case of wrong input etc" is that he just said, he's on msn. See I have each donation stored in the database yes, the delete was fine, I pulled the information, and when they delete I subtract. It's a little more involved, because it also goes on category, but I ahve all that programmed, it's just the math to do the editing itself. Even the total is fine, so far I just add them all up, adn the total is done. I just need to figure out how to handle the editing situation with math? When they add one, it tells what category, adds the donation to teh category amount, then updates the total, and full balance, no problem Same with deleting, it subtracts it, adds up total, works up balance. No problem, but the deleting has me stumped, since straight add or subtract won't work.
-
This is related to php, but more of math. I have a donation list. When one is deleted it's updating a monetary value, by removing it from that value, which is subtraction, when it adds one, it takes the value, and adds the amount on the donation to it. I don't know what do to when they edit the donaiton, adding, or just subtracting won't work, what process should I use. Basically I have 1 monetary value, say 500.00 If a new donation is added which is 250.00 it adds 250.00 to the 500.00 which is 750.00 easy, just adding what if it's then deleted, ok that's fine just 750 -250.00 = 500.00 done, but say it's added 250.00 Later they want to edit that, to they change it to 240, or 360 or something, I can;t just add this new number to the total, or subtract it, it won't turn out correct, so how do I correctly edit the total with the new value, without miscalculation?

Well my client hasn't gotten back to me, and he is starting to talk about stuff on that, on my server, that I don't appreciate. So I am waiting until I get paid for teh final section of the "site" tell him that (so far I collected nothing on the information about hosting), So I am quiting that site, and moving it to another server, too much content on that site, I don't want on my server.

.htaccess help please [ www or http://www not working]
Ninjakreborn replied to euroiplayer's topic in Miscellaneous
www's at the start of a URL are going out of fashion anyways, and are not needed.
I disagree with that one part. If you notice 95% Literally, 95% of the people who use hte internet ALWAYS put www.whatever.whatever. It's very rare someone will actually remember to do for instance freelancebusinessman.com It's highly unlikely that someone would type the actual name then .com, everyone is use to www and it will probably always be that way. 99% of the time you check a website, you can check how there dns is setup, 90% of the time it always has to have the www. Like php freaks, I haven;t tried but htey probably have it where you can do phpfreaks.com and it might work. If you go around trying some sites, some sites do, but most of them don't, it's not something "I feel" is going to go out of style for a bunch of years.
