Many small databases, or one big? (MySQL)
Daniel0 replied to Norsk.Firefox's topic in Application Design
In that case I'd probably just store everything in one table. It would be faster than having to join tables. -
Why would you want -2 decimals? That's not possible.

What do you mean with that it doesn't allow you to set a default value for the $debug argument? Are you sure you even need an interface? What are you using it for?

They don't make sense at all - just like real poems! You got it working correctly
-
It's quite possible it's been broken. It doesn't rotate or align letters randomly. It also always uses the same font and there is only minor noise in the image.
-
Perhaps a greater degree of categorization could be done. It's already done to some extent (oop, math, app design, regex). People would still need to place the posts correctly though.
-
Sometimes when you check availability it will get automatically registered after some time. You better purchase it quickly if you want it. I remember having read an article with some registrar admitting to do so, but I can't remember the link. I'll see if I can dig it up.

See http://www.google.com/webmasters

For that, this article should be useful: http://catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

I think I've heard some of the other staff mention a former newbie forum. It must've been there before I joined this site and removed because it didn't work out. However, if more people (both staff and regular members) are up for it, I wouldn't mind giving it a try. I think people might find it difficult classifying their problem as either basic or advanced though. That would create a lot of work moving the topics for the mods and admins as well as a lot of emails in our inboxes because people might disagree with the placement of a particular topic.

On Debian based distros, installing a LAMP is quite simple (so is it on all other distros which use a package system). Something like: aptitude install apache2 mysql-server-5.0 libapache2-mod-php5 php5-mysql (as root) On Ubuntu you should be able to do tasksel install lamp-server, but I has never worked for me.
Ok, but right around now, people are putting up "solved" posts. Is this feature now included? How are these showing up?
Yes it is. At the bottom of the page you'll see the topic solved button on topics you've started. It's where the moderation options would be if you were a moderator or an administrator.
-
That'll be done for you automatically.
-
Or, make random math challenges: http://www.lucianobello.com.ar/blog/captcha1.png
-
Those forums will be deleted when the new site launches (no ETA). By the way, the posts wrap automatically, so there is no need to make line breaks yourself...
-
How would it be calculated?

FYI, PHP can store its sessions in a database, it just doesn't do it by default. http://php.net/manual/en/function.session-set-save-handler.php
-
If you open Computer Management (compmgmt.msc), and go to System Tools > Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application, try to see if there is an error there.
-
I don't know what causes it, but FF3 crashes a lot in Windows. No problems in Linux though. It started from beta 4.
-
What does the error message say?
-
I'm quite sure phpBB has a configuration file somewhere in which the MySQL username and password are stored.

building a forum as a hobby project,
Daniel0 replied to blueman378's topic in PHPFreaks.com Website Feedback
We didn't create the forum, so this is just guesses. There is probably a whitelist of HTML tags which are allowed while the remaining are being converted to HTML entities. SQL injections are probably taken care of with a function like mysql_real_escape_string(). The iframes thing would be the same solution as the HTML tags. -
Or: <?php $filename = 'file.test.php'; echo substr($filename, 0, strrpos($filename, '.')); // output: file.test // OR echo pathinfo($filename, PATHINFO_FILENAME); // output: file.test ?>
