Daniel0
Something like dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb can do it. There are probably other ways as well. Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/125821-new-hard-drive/#findComment-650687 Share on other sites
The Little Guy
its not a linux computer, it is windows vista. Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/125821-new-hard-drive/#findComment-650704 Share on other sites
Daniel0
It doesn't matter. A hard disk is a hard disk. You can just burn and boot a Linux live CD like Knoppix on a computer that has both drives connected. The Little Guy
when I do that command in the Command prompt, I get this error: 'dd' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. DarkWater
It needs to be run from a Linux OS, but you can just insert a bootable Linux cd and run it from there as long as both hard drives are connected. Zane
I want to replace my 60GB HD on my laptop with a 320GB HD, is it possible to transfer the OS, and all the programs and settings from the old HD to the new HD? It's a Really simple drop and drag process. Install the new hard drive as slave first....drop and drag and then install it as master and do what you will with the 60. I'll gladly take it. DarkWater
That'll be just 57 easy payments of $19.95, plus shipping and handling. Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/125821-new-hard-drive/#findComment-650738 Share on other sites

jcombs_31
Vista has a utility to back up your entire drive I believe similar to ghost, you could probably use that, or use something like ghost or acronis tru image if you don't want to use linux.
