Imad
Have you guys thought of running the MyBB forum software instead of SMF? It has some pretty nice user friendly features that could increase the traffic to this site. Best Regards. Daniel0
Hmm... looks really good indeed (both in regard to features, performance and the layout). A forum migration is not an easy task though. Especially not when the database is large like ours. Imad
You can maybe try switching over on your local computer. Just grab a copy of the db and try to see if it will be successful or not. I believe the development team can do it for you as-well. I guess it something for you guys to look at for the future. I can talk to them about huge forum migrations and see what they suggest. Best Regards. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/128409-mybb-instead-of-smf/#findComment-665343 Share on other sites
Daniel0
Oh well, don't start too much planning I was simply voicing my opinion. There are other people who have a say here as well. Imad
Yes of course. Exactly why I said: "it's something to look at for the future." Best regards. Coreye
Why not just use vBulletin? At one point MyBB was just a copycat and even stole code from the vBulletin source. Jelsoft had lawyers shut them down for a short period of time because of this. For free, MyBB isn't bad software but neither is SMF. If you we're going to switch to another software and take the time to do a forum migration correctly, I would just go with vBulletin. Daniel0
Wow... It turns out I actually have an account on their forums despite me having absolutely no memory of it. Apparently i registered over four years ago. Why not just use vBulletin? At one point MyBB was just a copycat and even stole code from the vBulletin source. Daniel0
Mostly: 1) Why bother? 2) Why pay? Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/128409-mybb-instead-of-smf/#findComment-665423 Share on other sites
.josh
Well in the end #2 didn't really count, as Eric did approve paying for it. Main thing was the #1. I was one of the "Sure, why not? New shiny buttons!" votes. But I do understand the whole "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" arguments that detailed #1. Just because something isn't broken it doesn't mean something cannot be improved. That's what I meant, they took down the download. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/128409-mybb-instead-of-smf/#findComment-665572 Share on other sites

Daniel0
Regardless, MyBB doesn't have an SMF 2.0 converter so even if we wanted to switch we couldn't. However, if you actually confront them about it with such a big board. They'll most likely put you into priority. I just think that the easier to use forum software and some nice features will gain more members and traffic. I'm just thinking about the community. GingerRobot
Personally, I much prefer the SMF board to any other I can think of. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/128409-mybb-instead-of-smf/#findComment-665916 Share on other sites
JasonLewis
I agree with GingerRobot. SMF is fine. To me it's better then phpBB, vBulletin... Although I think my favourite is IPB. But SMF is fine, does the job well. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/128409-mybb-instead-of-smf/#findComment-665922 Share on other sites
Daniel0
I don't like SMF and I especially don't like its source code. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/128409-mybb-instead-of-smf/#findComment-665931 Share on other sites
JasonLewis
Yeah I hate the source. I have no idea whats going on when sifting through it. Apart from that, it functions well. I haven't really used the Admin side of it so I can't say much about that. But from a user perspective, I think its good. Zane
I've just really began to play with the source of SMF. It really is confusing as hell, I've figured a few things out here and there but making mods is what sucks. Once you get your mod ready you're at the mercy of whether or not the installation passes or not according to their little xml file thing. If we did change forum software.....again, we'd have to remake the topic solved feature......again, and listen to all the whining and groaning....again. Well once it got passed the "Wow, this forum software is really pretty!" part. And like has been mentioned already, the Db is too large, the only way I can think of to actually make a change to something else is to....*grits teeth* make a Backup Database into (x) Format Mod x being...a pretty basic format, with just the text and such, a few id columns, the users Would be a big sacrifice I'm pretty good with SMF still, honestly Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/128409-mybb-instead-of-smf/#findComment-665952 Share on other sites
