The active users is about the posts. Sometimes "You" need to know if someone has read your post or not.

Why do you need to know who viewed your post? I look at posts all the time, and I bet with this mod in place, all mods/gurus/recommendeds and admins will be getting PM'ed all the time...."Hey I saw you viewed my thread, can you help me?"

I do not like this idea.

....and that's exactly why I have my online status set to hidden.  I used to get bombarded with PMs all day long that started out with those words.

Well I'm not the only one who does it, so you're still shooting blindfolded.  Nonetheless, I do think it's retarded that smf adds that "+$x hidden" to the list.  Kind of defeats the purpose of hiding.  I feel like I'm playing a game of blind man's bluff or something.

Not if I'm in the regex forum ;) I was just razzin ya though.. I know there are others as well who remain hidden. And yeah, I agree.. kind of pointless for SMF to even include hidden listings.

Thing is, when you've been here long enough and answered questions enough times, there isn't really a whole lot that gets asked that you don't know the answer to, just from having answered the same damn thing 100 times before.  So tbh, if someone's question isn't being answered, chances are overwhelmingly high that its not being answered because they didn't ask the question properly in the first place.

But it's one of those paradox things, mutually exclusive sort of things.  If you are smart enough to ask your question properly, you are probably smart enough to at least figure out the solution on your own, in the first place.  Not saying smart people don't need to ask questions sometimes...just saying...chances are...
