kcmartz
I've tried XAMPP, I like the fact more features out-of-the-box, but WAMP (uninstalled XAMPP and trying out WAMP) seems lighter out of the box. What do you guys recommend? I've played around with both. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/263095-xampp-or-wamp/ Share on other sites
The Little Guy
I prefer WAMP, to me it seems easier to customize. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/263095-xampp-or-wamp/#findComment-1348489 Share on other sites

The Little Guy
Is there anything that uses Nginx? I like that better than Apache. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/263095-xampp-or-wamp/#findComment-1348492 Share on other sites
trq
Is there anything that uses Nginx? I like that better than Apache. Just install Nginx then. I'm not much of a fan of these prepackaged things. thehippy
Been using Virtualbox the last few months. For a quick setup just using an existing image like you'll get from here or setting up my own as similar to the production server as possible. There are tools like vagrant around to make managing things a bit easier as well. kcmartz
Virtualbox isn't a development server, is it ? I thought it was for virtualizing another operating system, not local development unless there is a feature I don't know about? Stefany93
XAMPP totally. It is fast, neat and everything you want it to be. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/263095-xampp-or-wamp/#findComment-1351589 Share on other sites

RobertP
tbh i usually install each one at a time, not as a service and start via cmd. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/263095-xampp-or-wamp/#findComment-1351613 Share on other sites

I don't know about totally but I agree with the rest of the statement. I just have my old PC on the floor with no mouse/kb or monitor attached running Ubuntu server. That way I can work on my desktop or laptop and don't have to sync up. I only have my laptop (the desktop is the family computer), so I just use a VM. Was thinking about pure dual boot, but didn't want to go through the hassle, as 80% of what I do is MS-related.
