I do agree about the blue links.
The purple links get underlined when you hover over them, the blue links should too! :)

And on this page: http://www.dundee.ac.uk/eswce/research/, the purple links on the box could also have a hover effect. or perhaps change the borders of the box to purple too.

Nice work.  What's below might seem like nit-picking, but for what it's worth ...

A lot of work has gone into the site to make it not only highly usable, but in providing accessibility at a fairly high level. There are opportunities for improved accessibility which you might want to consider.

I found the default font size to be too small for comfort and looked for an in-page link to adjust text size (and didn't find one). I suspect that would be more obvious use to visitors than the ability to change the color theme.  Once the text size is increased slightly, some of the upper links overlap others.

I tried all of the themes looking for one that would provide higher contrast - no luck.  All of the themes have lower contrast than I would have preferred.  Should be easy enough to add a true high-contrast theme.

There is no obvious 'skip to content' link on the page, which meant lots of tabbing was necessary to reach the true content (something that page readers would appreciate).

Some pages use identical link text/link titles for different links, e.g.http://www.dundee.ac.uk/eswce/professional-qualifications/ all three images have an identical link below them even though they link to different pages - an accessibility no-no.

As a web site, I'd give it the high marks the effort put into it deserves. As an accessible web site, a little bit more attention will bring accessibility to a similar high standard.

belated edit: I really don't like the fully-justified text in the content area (especially as it isn't justified in the sidebar).  It looks pretty bad when the font size is increased.

I don't like how 3 different links in the main menu seem to take me to another site, even though it is the same domain name.  I completely throws me off.  I think the site is put together well, but could maybe use some more images.  Seems a little boring right now.

I like it. I'd make the lime green default though, and remove / replace the orange and pink as options.

One more thing; this seems alittle crowded:

This looks a little better, don't you agree?

Personally I think removing the left links looks even better, but I can understand your concern as to where to put those.

Overall, I like it a lot. It's clean and simple and effective.

P.S. The font is just fine. If you want to humor them change it to a different sans serif font. But I think they're just nagging.

Something else: you need padding on the content boxes, i.e.:

After reading Andy's post, I agree you should use a default colour which will provide a little more contrast. I also have to agree on the links with identical text. NOT a good idea.

I can also see how some might think the font size is too small.
