Does anyone actually use Experts Exchange?

I'd probably be willing to try the 7 day trial if they didn't want my billing information so they could roll it directly into a monthly fee.  Also if they'd increase the trial to 14 days I think that would be more helpful.

I, too, often get to expert exchange when I search for something. But the thing is, eventually I find out the answer I was looking for, without having to pay anyone.

I think the extra 5 minutes (or even less most of the times) of moving on and searching isn't worth subscribing and paying expert exchange...

Orio.

Ditto the previous remarks. I, too, have often found their "solutions" at the top of my Google searches, but I'm not about to pay someone for a solution that I can't be guaranteed will fit my need anyway. That's one of my biggest gripes about them is that for any given question, there can be a myriad of answers, and when I can browse multiple answers elsewhere and choose the best for my needs, I'm not going to pay them to give me what they deem to be what I want to read.

And so can I.  Depending on the question I can find the answer between 30 seconds or 30 minutes.  Over time this extra time spent searching for answers can add up; this is why I'm curious about the quality of their service and the answer there.  Even if their answer is just a post-back to an obscure blog that you would have found eventually anyways, it's the potential time saved that matters.  If they save me just 15 minutes per month then it more than pays for the price.

The thing is there's no indication on the quality of the responses and I'm not about to sign up for a trial and give them my billing info at the same time.  That's why I was hoping someone here might actually have used them.

Oh wow.  So after doing some googling on experts exchange, I learned that the answers are visible at the bottom of the page if you just scroll down.  Looks like they're banking on our collective ADD to not notice this and it's working.

roopurt, OMG. You are correct. I can't believe I never seen that before. You have to scroll all the way down to the bottom ,but everything is re-repeated with the answer-unblocked. This includes the accepted solution. Wow... amazing... how in the world was this never noticed before (atleast by me?). I guess the assumption that the values were blocked out at the top kept me from looking below.

Exactly.

But they have to make their content publicly accessible or the search engine bots wouldn't be able to index it.

I've been taking advantage of this for a few years. :) I absolutely love Google's cache.

edit: After poking around, it seems that it's available to the general public, too. Even outside of Google's cache. Wow. :)

From what I am reading as well, in firefox you can get a plugin that changes your user-agent. If you set this user-agent to GoogleBot, you can see all the answers without scrolling all the way down.

SEO SPAM anyone?

I thought everyone knew that... then again, most of the "answers" are crap.

I didn't discover it until recently, and it's been said earlier, but that seems to be my biggest issue. It doesn't fit my situation, and it requires more research. Which is better for me in the long run anyway, but I agree, probably not worth paying the fee.

Recently they have started turning the text into gibberish even if you do scroll down, allt he text comes out like chinese characters.

However if you find the experts-exchange (tee hee Expert Sex Change :) ) website when searching for an answer then clicked the Cached link below the result in google and it shows it all in plain text :)

However I never find their answers very useful, it is better to us a more freely available site or specialist site for what your problem is

Sites I like:

http://forums.techguy.org/

http://www.lockergnome.com/

This still works, I searched on Google "Experts Exchange Socket problems", clicked the first one from EE and the solution was at the bottom. I still don't like EE though.
