wow that was quick I just went off to change my sig.

did you vote or anything?  I'm a little worried it will stall before it gets going you know

no one votes because no one votes syndrome

it's like trying to start an engine, I get it to turn over but it isn't fireing.

I've just put php freaks on the new releases and voted for it, needs 4 more votes to enter the charts.
This is one of my favorite websites, I've had a lot of help and advice from here.
you can vote here http://www.votedtop....elp-PHP-Freaks/

Looks ok.

A few things:

Your HOME tab doesnt work. It just stays on Website Charts.

The top bar needs more containment (borders) and a colour.

The site currently looks open and too white IMO.

Other than that - registration seems to work ok.

Thanks for looking steviewdr, when you say needs more containment I was thinking once I get the wishy washy logo sorted out it might look better? I’m trying to learn about vector images instead of the photoshop logo.

The home and the website charts is the same thing it’s a remnant thanks for pointing it out.

To white and open? you can't say that  :o  I've been working so hard to get that white open look lol
its the new look man,  all white and open.... isn't  it?

perhaps you're right, I just had a look at flock.com because I like the look n feel of it.. perhaps I should have some off white areas. and once I master this vector images thing I can put a totally random image on the page, you know how they do a fish or a cog something cryptic.

not bad. first things first, though. you need to validate your code. you've got an XHTML Transitional doctype, but you have several errors when you validate it (http://validator.w3....w.votedtop.com/). the main thing is that your meta tags need to be self-closing. i can't validate your CSS until that is cleaned up a bit.

as far as actual layout goes, it's really not bad at all. it's very easy on the eyes, which is good. it does seem to run together a bit to me, though since there is no visul dividers between the columns and different sections of the page. also, your tabs at the top seem to be off by a pixel or two. there is a gap under the ones that are not currently chosen. is that intentional? i like the logo, but i really feel that you should have some sort of division between the header and the content of the page. also, your search form looks a little funny not being aligned to anything. it just sort of floats there in space.

now that the negatives are out of the way... your choice of colors is excellent to me. i really like the style you've set forth on the page. it just "feels" good ;-)... also, the font choices and sizing are very fitting for the type of site you have, i think. everything seems to work well, too, so thumbs up on that. plus, you're right, that flash game is adicting!

keep up the good work, and i look forward to seeing the finished product!

very true... to an extent. the use of whitespace for a purpose is definitely in, but having lack of color and visual dividers simply to make it white is dangerous. come up with a way to use the whitespace to your advantage (which i think you're well on the way towards), and i think you'll be golden.

Echo obsidian.

Its not the white space really or the white look and feel - its the fact you need borders and divisions between your areas.

Yes - the white clean and airy look is in.

steve

^ That site is blocked by my internet filter for "criminal skills", lol.

I think it looks really good! Not a fan of the white background, maybe do a very light green? I think it would look more "pulled together" that way. Love the colorscheme, very easy on the eyes.
