A few things will be switched once we move over to the new forum software - including the way the DB servers are setup. This should help out a lot. If it is occurs within the first few minutes of the hour, it is likely the backup - if it is not, please let me know. It could be something else but I suspect it is the backups as well.

IPB has grown quite a bit over the past few years and has a faster development cycle than SMF. In any case, the user interface will be default to begin with and once we start changing our main site then the skin will change to match. We will happily take any requests, compliments & complaints into consideration once we start the design process. And for those wondering when this is gunna happen - now that I'm back from vacation I can get the ball rolling again

For those worried about what it will look like... this is what the default is (which is what we are starting with.) Once we finish up a custom skin, it should have the same basic look & not take up any extra space. And... the forum conversion process should start shortly after I get back from vacation

It is hot, but still within operating temps. Under a decently heavy load, with a lower-end cooler that isn't terribly uncommon. Now would I want mine running at that temp? No, I prefer it at half that But that's a moot point, OP's computer appears to be a laptop. I imagine his lap is a bit hot though OP - your fan speed depends on the fan. Some spin faster, some spin slower, some have more airflow, some have left... etc. It really all depends.

Is it under load or anything? That's normal (at least for a desktop CPU) under load and is still within operating temps - although a bit toasty

SafeGuard or SourceGuard? (Note, they are 2 completely different products.)

I can't think of any forums that are like this by default - you'll likely need to modify the code in a way to fit your needs.
