Ugh, I hate working off of laptops - both for cramped keyboards and those absolutely retarded trackpads. I almost always have a mouse with it as well, but like you I usually run out of desk space when I'm working offsite. Boo When are you back to the states?

Instead of necro'ing an old thread, I figured I'd start a new one. I'm excited as I finally completed the first half of it tonight (the other half will be a bookcase / bike display area.) I had almost all of the parts for close to a month and was only missing 1 part, ugh... how annoying to sit there and see half of the desk just sitting there waiting So I ask you, what does your office / workspace look like?

I think Kevin nailed it on the head here. SMF was difficult for us to really add new features safely. Every upgrade we would have to rebuild our applications / extensions, which isn't fun to say the least. Also with IPB or vB, we have the option of a support team who is there for us if we need them. Thankfully, we haven't run across that yet, but it is nice to know that we have a support team around the clock for any questions we might have. The design will be evolving over the next few months, and will notably change whenever we launch the new version of the main site. A very custom forum skin will launch with that. However, if you have any suggestions / specific issues you don't like, feel free to let us know Yeah, I'm considering upping that limit. I'll likely make it post count based (or rep-based if I can), so that it isn't abused and new users don't spam everyone but long-term members still can use their PM box more.

You can actually find that one of 2 ways now: 1) View New Content -> using these filters: "Forums", "Content I have not read", "Items I participated in". or 2) Click your username at the top -> "My Content". It won't show you new ones, but it'll show all of your content ordered by last updated.

Some users are having issues with the PM system, but a different issue. That just means they were one of the few that didn't get their avatar converted over during the process, and that they need to reupload it.

Shit son, come pick me up before you head over. I'll bring the snacks!

Nah, Pikachu will take a jetski across the ocean. Or swim. He's a badass.

You haven't looked hard enough: http://php.meetup.com/ (several in WA state) http://php.net/conferences/ http://www.phpusergroups.org/groups.phtml?menu=groups&country=United+States

Went ahead and split this topic (origin)

Yeah, I need to change the error pages to something different now that the conversion is done. I just did a virtual login as you, and I do indeed get the error as well. We'll take a look into it.

Some of us robots stealing human avatars. I'm mainly talking about .josh

Oops, sorry Barand, you should have access now. IPB obviously didn't want you to spam other users with PMs

Thanks for the positive feedback everyone; glad everyone seems to be enjoying the changes @Christian - the link to the static page was an old forum url that didn't work on the previous forum AFAIK. I'll update it soon with the new link. As far as the code, yeah... it's not the best syntax highlighter & we're looking at other options.
-
@ChristianF - there is only 1 topic for that user and 0 posts (which note that they are split out)
-
Agreed, that is a pretty big issue for a coding forum. We'll take a look into it. Yeah, we'll be changing the "new reply" notification. Both keeping it around longer & having it poll more frequently.

Members should be merged, so you have control over your post
-
Ah, okay, I see what you mean now. It seems its OK if you copy it, but once you post it using WYSIWYG it removes spaces/tabs.
-
Should be fixed?
-
Yup, we have a new IC tag in place, but we need to rebuild all of the posts to make it go into effect for existing posts. We're waiting on adding in all of our bbcodes before doing this. As Jesi suggested, you might need to mark all read (there is a link at the bottom "Mark Community Read" - this will reset your topic markings and should fix it. Unforunately topic marking is one of those things that can't be converted. Interesting, will look into it. We're also looking at adding in the horizontal scrollbar back. Not sure what you mean here?

It was indeed faster than we expected (by quite a bit!) And I made a note on the original post: If you have an iPhone, you can get a mobile app ($1.99) that allows you to get push notifications (for replies, PMs, etc.) We do not own the app, it is our software providers, however our forums will support this. Android/WinMo users - sorry, no app at this time but they are working on it

Dan - there is one in the staff area, members can report here if need be.

All - We have recently upgraded our forums to new software - IPB. PHP Freaks has been needing to grow and expand, which our previous software did not really allow us to do. We're excited to make the first steps of bringing in new features to our members and this conversion was definitely a giant leap in the right direction. Of course with change comes pains, but we've done our best to mitigate these. However, if you see anything wrong or have suggestions / complaints, we definitely would love your opinion to be heard. You'll also notice with the upgraded forums a new look. We're updating our branding and will be tweaking this over the next few weeks to make the new skin a bit more bearable. What else is in store for PHP Freaks? We're in the process of developing a brand-new main site with more features, upgraded branding (to match here) and most importantly - more content! Yup, more tutorials, articles, etc. will be coming in the next few months. Again, thank you for your patience as we fix any bugs! The PHP Freaks Team -- Other notes: If you have an iPhone, you can get a mobile app ($1.99) that allows you to get push notifications (for replies, PMs, etc.) We do not own the app, it is our software providers, however our forums will support this.

Thanks guys, testing looks like all will go smoothly, so let's hope it stays that way I'll be on IRC most of the weekend if anybody has any questions about the conversion.
