I can throw my $0.02 around I guess. The Phenoms are excellent processors. I ran one of the original bad boys (x4s) when they first were released and it lasted me close to two years before I decided I wanted to upgrade. Now I'm running the x6, and it still is a dream. Finding a motherboard can be a bit tricky with the 125W, but most of them should show their max rating (you might have to visit their website for full specs.) Personally I'm also running ATI, and have been for quite a while. If you're running AMD I'd suggest sticking with ATI (since it is owned by AMD), but it is not a requirement (just check your mobo)... but ultimately I guess we need more info on your budget.

I wouldn't say considerably below since Intels run at a faster speed than AMDs but have equivalent power.... but yeah, a bump up wouldn't hurt. As far as switching from 32 to 64 bit.. mmm I don't think you'll see a difference with your specs.

I'm a HP guy... recently picked up one of their tablets and haven't had a problem yet. As far as others: I hate Dell, with a burning passion. I've never had a good, fully functioning Dell. Gateway/Acer aren't too bad, same with Toshiba.

Pfftt, it's not that bad. I recently started a new backup for offsite, ~150GB, ~300k files, only will take about a week But this is for a safety precaution in case somebody decides to burn down my apartment complex. I still have my external drive doing daily backups.
