  1. A suggestion for when a user searches Sony Vegas or any other windows video editing software...it would be nice to see Final Cut Pro up there as it's a top video editing software for the Mac, and also for audio a program called Audacity...which is Windows and Mac compatible. Nice website but the design is a bit too simple.

  3. This is pretty old stuff you are posting, I remember seeing this years ago. It's a nice read though.
  4. Thank you for the reply, I am glad that you have participated in this.
  5. Calling all freelancers! I have a college project in which I have to ask freelancers some questions and then evauluate it. So I was wondering if you could help me out by replying to this topic with the answers the following questions. This is for the main research part of the project, so I would be pleased if any freelancers could answer the questions. 1. Being a freelancer, you would have to find your own work. How would you personally go and find work? 2. Can you afford to live on freelancer wages alone? If not then do you have another job? 3. What is the hardest part of being a freelancer? 4. How do you pay your tax and national insurance? 5. Do you belong to a workers union? If so, which one? 6. Why did you choose to be a freelancer? 7. Can you afford to take holidays and time off to yourself when working as a freelancer? 8. What types of insurance do you have when working as a freelancer? 9. How do you keep up to date with skills? Do you do any training courses? 10. How do you establish contacts when working as a freelancer? 11. What training have you done? If so, what qualifications have you got? 12. Do you provide all of your own equipment? 13. What are the different ways in which clients can contact you for work? Thank you for completing this for me, Matt.
  6. Heya all, I had a trip to my local cinema today with my media class at college. We got a tour around the cinema, which meant we got to see how they show the films etc. I find it really amazing about how films come on about 6 or 7 reels of film, and then they are taped together with something that is almost selotape! We also got to see their digital projectors working, which one of them was showing Alice in Wonderland in 3D. Would you really think that classic film technology in cinemas could be overrun by digital film technology? I have attached a picture of some film they let us have... [attachment deleted by admin]
  7. The doctype is correct for the page he is using. That is all you need for the the doctype of an html 5 page. Anyway, there are some validation errors within your page, but they can easily be fixed as they are simple mistakes. You could maybe jazz the header up a bit by creating a graphic in photoshop or paint.net. You may need to put a title for the page like so... <titleTitle of page</title> Research up on typography will help you to make a better design as well. I can see you have different fonts selected but for only the body which is basically the whole of the page. Mix the fonts up a little, using serifs for headings and sans-serifs for content. Not bad for a first website, but just keep practicing.
  8. This is a javascript question. The answer to your problem is a javscript content slider, you can find loads out there using google.
  9. You just need to combine your nav and hover nav picture, put the nav hover underneath so it is a total of 428px in height. You can then set each of the buttons to the background-position, then when you need to hover you just need to change it so it shows the hover one. This this article on css tricks should give you a helping hand on any info you need about css sprites.

    css3

CSS3 should work with all forms of html/xhtml. I think the only browser it is not supported by would be internet explorer.
  11. Axeia, I have used a grid within the design as it is a light design and within light website designs grids are key. As for my code...it is all valid. You just need to research HTML 5, as this is what it is. In which therefore I did not make up my own tags.
  12. I thought I would try to design another light design. I have also coded the design... Minihobbs Design Hope you like it.
  13. Take a look at two column css layouts. This will help give both sides independent control.
  14. You can sort that by using grids for light designs. There is a link in my first post.
  15. That's ok, I like to tell what is wrong withthe site, why it is wrong and how it can be improved. You should use divs which create tableless designs. The design you have is not hard to create with divs. This can help you with the structure of the site.
  16. To get critiques, you must be prepared to wait for people to notice your topic... Right then... - Validation cannot be done for your site as it is blocked by something. - Spacing. The spacing on the website is shocking, as it is inconsistent and all over the place, making it hard for users to find content. - Alignment. Hardly any part of the website is actually aligned properly (the right sidebar). The alignment of divs and headings of those divs are off. Make them all to the left, or all centered...not left or a bit from the left or center. This can also lead to content not being found for users. Note: You can use grids for the design of the website. This should help you out with spacing and alignment. - Images. The background of the middle of your headers does not show in Firefox, but it does it IE. This makes it difficult for Firefox users to see headings of most of your divs. - Typography. Apart from tahoma, the only fonts you use are 'arial, helvetica, sans-serif' for everything else. Make use of serifs for headings and another font for the content...you can also throw in a third font if you have a good enough design. - Footer. You seem to have loads of space between the content and the footer of the page...it needs to be reduced so the user doesn't have to scroll down just to see the footer text. - Slogan. It would be quite handy if you were to get rid of the blue gradient bar underneath the nav, as it has no purpose. Then you can put the text 'Professional repair since 2005' where the 'Formely MyiPodBroke.com' is as nobody really wants to know what the site was...as they are viewing iTronics Repair. - Login. It would be far more useful to remove the big gray bar with the 'login' on it and place a navigation link to login on the far right of the navigation, to make it more visible to users. - Date. Nobody needs to see what day it is as they have that information available to thewm already through the taskbar of their computer or on their phone. The only real need for it is if the site depends on users seeing that information and using it someway to interact with the site. - Donation 'Please support MyiPodBroke.com and make a donation today!'. You may need to change that... - Contact. When I click on the contact link, I do not expect to see the name of the file to be 'about.php' when it is 'contact' on the navigation. You should also include the form on the contact (well, you have it as the about page) page and provide the information you have on 'about.php' with it. I hope I have helped you in some way.
  17. You could also make the links within that div display as a block that is the width and height of your div.
  18. Problem is this code, as you have an unordered list within an unordered list... <ul><li><a href="?ac=auar"><strong>Annual report</strong></a></li></ul> <ul><li><a href="?ac=auec"><strong>Executive Committee</strong></a></li></ul> <ul><li><a href="?ac=aumt"><strong>Meetings</strong></a></li></ul> <ul><li><a href="?ac=aump"><strong>this</strong></a></li></ul> <ul><li><a href="?ac=aumb"><strong>Membership</strong></a></li></ul>
  19. I have just recently (today) purchased a playstation 3 and got Little Big Planet with it. I have only just started playing it (to the part where you get to make your own levels), and I find that through everything you want to do, you have to do a tutorial for...surely they should have made it so that all of the tutorials are in one place and then you can reference it when you want to and just let you get on with the level building. I was just wondering who has this game and what are your experiences of it.
  20. This is one of my favourites, but XKCD is just so awesome you cannot really have a favourite, as it's beaten on a weekly basis. #400
  21. Just as a little update, below is another stop motion animation piece I have done today... Penny Stop Motion Animation
  22. I made another one today. I used some little toy cars and added some sound to it as well. Second Stop Motion Animation Hope you like it.
  23. I plan to expirement with some little toy cars next...if I can get some.
  24. Heya there, I have always want to try and do some stop motion animation. I have created a little sample of some very basic stop motion stuff. This is because I want to start out basic, and build my skill up etc. Anyway... Watch the video Hope you like it.
  25. Overall it's not a bad design, but there are a few things to pick up on... - Spacing. Your content and design does not really have enough 'breathing' space. - Your header. Add 10-20px mor of padding on the top and 20-30px on the bottom. To make space around it. - News (or latest news). On the title of each news, make it a link if it links to somewhere rather than just a div hover. It also needs about 2-3px more padding. The content is all squished and should have about 5px more padding. - News content. I see that you have used divs for everything (except the unordered list for the nav). Now a good site should separate paragraphs out and style them accordingly using <p> tags. - Content line height. Line height for content should be at least 1.5 times bigger than the font size. This is to make it more easily readable. - Footer. Again, make it about 5px more padding for everything, to give it space to breathe. The gradient bar background could be lost as double footers are not good, and could be just the text but a bit darker. - Links. All the links on your page are just '<a href="#">'. I know that this is just an example page, but add some titles to your links to make your page a little more SEO friendly. I hope I have helped you out.
