i'm with gast on this one... i was also thinking a green theme would be nice for a change. i like the idea of having a different color scheme for each major differentiation of the web freaks... although since it's tied so closely to PHP, it wouldn't hurt to have it blue, either .

Don't know if Eric has noticed this yet, but I am sure he will.

BTW, guys. Me and obsidian are working on a project and are thinking of using AJAX. We have already used some stuff, but one of the things we are thinking of doing is a sort of shopping system (it isnt an e-commerce website, btw) with ajax that will fade out products you cannot afford and add to your cart, update your money, all without reloading the page.

Isn't The Web Freaks site colour-coded green? What are your thoughts on Pink?

ugh... not a big fan of pink... i would not mind an earth-tones site at all, though... browns and tans can look very good. especially if they're highlited with maroon or another rich color.

For anyone interested in some light reading... here's some links I found today:

This is just something that I am wondering about in AJAX. I know how to change stuff dynamically using AJAX without reloading the page, but I understand that you can get stuff to change dynamically automatically without you having to do anything.

As far as I know you have to trigger on one of the javascript event handlers (onload, onclick, onmouseover, etc.) So how can this happen? Any ideas?

I'm just guessing here, but wouldn't you be able to put some kind of timer going, and when it hits a certain time, have it do something? I don't really see the advantage of being able to do something with no interaction from the user, unless it's time-based.

Hey There Guys !!!

Well , I have seen some of the AJAX code and have used some of it.

And you are definitely right, it is the wave of the future.

Well its the wave of the present.

I can't wait for AjaxFreaks.com.

I will try to help anyway i can.

What i need from u guys is if u could give me a free AJAX tutorial download link or any manual possible.

I want to get my basics right.

Well thats all for now.

I'm starting to get interest in AJAX too and I cant wait for Ajafreaks either! Also davefern look at this post [a href=\"http://www.phpfreaks.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=79168\" target=\"_blank\"]here[/a], under the AJAX heading for resources on AJAX.

Thanx goto ober for that post.

[!--quoteo--][div class=\'quotetop\']QUOTE[/div][div class=\'quotemain\'][!--quotec--]I honestly think AJAX is going to be the next BOOM on the internet.

why is this? i meen its been around forever now, why is it only recently getting attention?

ps: that might have come out a bit funny. dont get me wrong, i love developing with it. im just not sure why its suddenly cool, when its allways been here.

Because someone gave it a name, a way to symbolize it and that became a buzzword and everyone is hyping about it. Would Linux be as popular if it didn't have a name? I don't think so :)

72dpi has given us the layout for Ajaxfreaks.com: [a href=\"http://ajaxfreaks.72dpi.net.au/\" target=\"_blank\"]http://ajaxfreaks.72dpi.net.au/[/a]

It is green yes, and I think some may complain about that, but I and about 5 other people I have given the link to, think it's appropriate.

We'll begin working on the site early december.

Regards,

Very cool layout. Reminds me of my site :P.

Well i would love to help out and write tutorials etc, if you were to help me out too by giving links and such.

And btw, AJAX will not be the next boom. It's not even something you can develop that much. It's just a method of sending and receiving information, how much more complicated can you make it? You can't.

I and many others will disagree with that.

It's not that it's a new technology or really even a new language, it's the ability to streamline applications, enhance server processing, and tie together many of our favorite languages to enhance not just our website, but our web applications.

I've seen a few very popular applications already implementing it, and we plan to do the same with Hybodus. It's going to be interesting.

Now, I don't think it's going to be as popular as XHTML, XML, or nothing like PHP, but it is catching on and it will be popular.

Exactly. What I like about it is the ability to refresh things on a page without having to reload the entire page...such as if you pick a state it lists all of the cities in that state without refreshing the page. It is the next big boom! Even Microsoft and phpBB are using it...and if you know if they are using it then it is a big thing since they are the last to pick up everything in hopes to follow the most popular fav instead of paving the way for it...that was mean. Didn't mean to make fun of phpBB or Microsoft....wait yes i did.

Yes it should be changed soon enough. I have been talking to Ryan about it, the designer of the logo, and he is working on making a trademark logo for AJAX. Currenly one does not exist to our knowledge, so we hope to set the standard. Such as php having the <? and Linux having the tiny peguine thingy. We will update you on what we find out on that part. Any ideas, just post them here as we are drawing blanks on what we should make.

Well I am glad to see the green looking good. Like SA said, looks a bit strange at the moment without the logo finished, but it will look good soon.

Nice to see the good use of find and replace with PHP and AJAX!

Let us know any updates, Eric.

Well obviously AJAX is great, speeds things up and is very cool to play with, and make great web applications that run smoother, however one of the reasons i say it won't be "the next boom" is because its javascript. SE don't read Javascript, so you can't make a whole site out of AJAX. Only application type things can be made AJAX, such as a domain name look up that i made a while back.

I mean its great everyone knows that, however, don't get so carried away with it... Seriously, you can barely make about 3 different ways of an AJAX engine. The reason i say this is because it isn't a very broad subject to be called a "next boom", something like PHP is!

Well I think making an entire site out of AJAX wouldnt really be a good idea, it would be purely for adding applications to your website and implementing XML docs, etc. to your website. However virtually anything that needs a page load could be improved with the use AJAX.
