nrg_alpha
Oh noes.. more versions to choose from... I liked it better in the days when the choice was between home and professional editions... jcombs_31
I don't know what the big deal is, people should be used to it by now. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/143771-windows-7-skus/#findComment-754338 Share on other sites
nrg_alpha
For me personally, I think I like the approach of 1 or 2 versions. Keeping things somewhat simpler. I don't see the necessity of a plathora of versions. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/143771-windows-7-skus/#findComment-754350 Share on other sites
Daniel0
http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=659 Here it's reported that for regular people there will only be three ones to choose between. Edit: The engadget link posted by nrg_alpha also says only three seeing as "Enterprise" is "available only in volume licenses" and that "Home Basic" is "only available in emerging markets" and "Starter" is otherwise not available normally. That leaves home premium, pro, and ultimate left. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/143771-windows-7-skus/#findComment-754374 Share on other sites
nrg_alpha
Yeah, three isn't bad.. it looks less cluttered when having to deal with home, professional or enterprise.. I guess with limited accessability for the others, it helps simplify things.. corbin
Anyway, for anyone interested: http://www.pcworld.com/article/158861/windows_7_to_ship_in_six_different_versions.html The 3-programs-at-a-time version sounds terrible. "Windows 7 Ultimate (limited availability, includes everything)" Wonder why it will have limited availability. Weird. And uhhh, I didn't realize the Vista equivalents were anywhere near that expensive. serverman
$320?! did anyone tell them we are in an econmic recession? plus you can buy a new system(no OS) for that much. as for your worst nightmare has come to pass I don't know about that. until recently all Linux distros had like 3 different installers (not counting the ones for each platform) before DVDiso's became large you would have like 5 Cds if they put KDE and Gnome and XFCE so they made different ISOs for each desktop environment. corbin
On newegg, retail Vista Ultimate is $236, but I guess when it first came out it may have been $320. The OEM version is $180. corbin
The way I understand it, it's made for poor people or Netbooks (poor people because they're poor obviously, and Netbooks because... well.... I don't quite know why Netbooks). Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/143771-windows-7-skus/#findComment-754982 Share on other sites
Philip
Netbooks because they may not have the processing power. Still, I should have the power to tell my PC to overwork itself. lol Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/143771-windows-7-skus/#findComment-754986 Share on other sites
corbin
Yeah, that was what I was getting at with the not sure thing. Also, 3?! 3!!!! Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/143771-windows-7-skus/#findComment-754988 Share on other sites
tibberous
I still haven't switched to Vista. I use about 15 programs, and so long as most of them continue to work, it doesn't make sense to switch to a slower, buggier, OS. corbin
As far as buggier goes, I don't think Vista is what you would call buggy any more. I don't think it was ever buggy for the most part. If you have XP, might as well wait until Windows 7 comes out now lol. premiso
I don't think it was ever buggy for the most part. Thinking about it, I would agree. All the problems people had were because no one had drivers for Vista, which would be a problem for any new operating system on a PC. Daniel0
I haven't had more problems with Vista than any other OS. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/143771-windows-7-skus/#findComment-755503 Share on other sites

Although I think even MS has realized that they could have worked much more openly with hardware companies as far as drivers go.
