StarCraft 2

The Little Guy

I've not played the first one, but the trailer looks pretty cool. I'll be downloading the digital copy on release day, probably. I thought you could only play as one race, and then they're allowing you to play as the other two in two subsequent expansion packs? Or is that just for single player campaigns? Can you play all three in multi-player?

Multilayer you can play all 3, but for single player, I am not too sure, as I don't even play single player mode, its not as fun as multilayer mode!

Not played PC games for years. More of a console man, however I never played Starcraft back in the day but used to be a massive fan of Dune & the Command & Conquer strategy series. Don't know how they compare. The price of a PC for gaming these days is just too high for me to warrant it.

i do believe single player will work much like the first games. The campaign will be all human until the other expansions for the other races come out, but you will be able to set up single player senario's where you can play as all the races.

I can wait for this game to come out, the first one was epic, this looks even better!

I hate sims - it makes one scream out for a real life!

What do you mean? "The Sims", or simulator games in general? Starcraft 2 is an RTS (arguably it simulates battle, but it's not a sim).

I'm not usually a fan of RTS games...closest I usually get to is TBS games.  But since everybody seems to be splooging their panties over it, I thought I'd procure a guest pass (thanks KingPhilip!) and give it a try.  If I had to sum up the whole experience in one word, it would be....meh.

I played a couple 2v2 and 4v4 games with some phpf folks.  Seemed to go 1 of 2 ways: either you get wtfpwned early on, or people pretty much leave you alone for a while, and it basically boils down to who can pump out a big army the fastest, whoever has the biggest guns wins.  Overall it was somewhat fun, but I think that had more to do with just playing something with some friends in general and not so much the actual game.

I then spent the remainder of my trial playing solo-campaign, did a handful of missions.  TBH overall it wasn't that entertaining.  Though I did like how you could play the galaga type arcade game in the bar, and how they had a hologram WoW night elf dancing (yes that's how they really look and dance in WoW if you've never played it) in the bar :P

To be fair, it was only the trial, so I was only able to do a handful of missions before my time expired.  I did like how the gameplay varied a bit.  One mission where you had to build up while escorting, another where the zerg came out at night so it was like coming in waves.  Maybe it gets better along the way, idk...but overall ...what can I say? Gather some resources, build some shit, increase your army, click on enemies till they blow up.  /yawn.

I'm still looking for a game that's actually fun in a funny/entertaining way fun, and this just didn't do it for me :/

Ding ding ding! We have a winner! That sums up exactly what SC2 is in one sentence. I don't hate it, but there are times when I get bored... but if you play with friends its not bad.

You guys need to play some custom maps, those kick ass! Such as "Nexus Wars".

StarCraft is the number one RTS game of all time. StarCraft II may have beaten that now.

If you lose really badly that obviously means your strategy sucks. Find a new one. Sadly I can play starcraft for 5 hours a day and not get bored. I love making new popular maps too, and maybe coming up with the next sweet map craze. There have also been games that have come out of starcrft and been modified to a different game, such as Tower Defenece games like Bloons Tower Defense 1, 2 and 3 by NinjaKiwi. How do I know? I emailed them and asked.

Over all I give the new SC2 5/5 stars!

I lost badly the first couple times because I had never played the game before. Or any other RTS for that matter.... I think I got the hang of it pretty quickly, and I estimate I probably would have started to wtfpwn in a "holy shit..is that even possible? HAXX!!!" way in a couple more games. The game is completely predictable. Memorize the right sequence of icons to click and instant win.  It's like they've never heard of RNG...I just don't see how people get off to RTS games, but I guess they probably say the same about my tastes, so w/e.

I mean no offense, just not my cup of tea.

How you feel about Starcraft it is how I feel about FPS. You shoot one guy you have shot em' all is how I see it. FPS game bore the hell out of me, and not to mention the motion sickness that I get. I guess I am one to say that I like simple strategy games like StarCraft, Sim City, Roller Coaster Tycoon. These are the only types of games that can hold my attention. For more than 30 minutes. Oh... and arcade games too such as Worms on the PS3!

Never touched a StarCraft game in my life, I think I've watched someone play it. Don't really remember. Not really my kind of game, now Halo Reach on the other hand...  8)

I liked Age of Empires, that was a fun RTS, but only when I played with some mates over a LAN. I prefer console games though, not necessarily shooters. I'm more of a RPG guy, like Fallout 3.

mhmm, RTS is a specific style of gaming i must say, but wouldn't memorising a sequence be somewhat like that for all games?
