  1. Let me do one better.... give me a few minutes to set something up.
  2. But how do you invite clients unless we start with a client-base? Maybe we set a minimum budget of $1000 per project. That would weed out the losers for the most part.
  3. I've considered doing that... basically creating a site where you only become available to take projects when you've proven yourself to a set of peers. I can think of a handful of people I'd take from here and then once you pass the peer approval, you'd also get rated by the customer. People with less than 95% approval get booted. Does anyone want to start a little venture with me?
  4. Umm... didn't you have a round of testing before the other company said they were done with it? I find it hard to believe that it would go down like this: "Here's the specs" "It's done!" "okedoke, thanks, here's your cash" If this stuff wasn't caught during User Acceptance Testing, then shame on your company as well as the company that did the work.
  5. How about you NOT do that. Are you trying to get us to lose our ads?
  6. I don't know the technical details behind it, but I'll give you my experience and how I think it works, for what it's worth: allofmp3.com gave me the files I could download in a window. Once I downloaded them they were no longer available. I don't think JS was involved but I do think some backend tracking was occurring for sure. Since they generated the file to my specs before download, I can only assume it was moved to a location for me to download. I can also assume that they also were possibly tracking my session and how much data my session was moving on the server. Again, I don't know how you would track the number of bytes a person has downloaded from a file, but I'm pretty sure that's how they did it.
  7. Maybe you should go to a cprogramming board? cboard.cprogramming.com would be a good place to start.

    VPS Questions

I talked to them and they said the "starter" package won't even run cPanel efficiently, so it looks like I'm going with the advanced package. I'll probably also go managed for at least a few months. And it is for a client, and he was expecting to pay much more than that, so I'm golden. As far as SSL, I was thinking about going with their cert as well... $49/year would get me the basics I need to make him appear legit. I also want to consider something like this: https://www.scanalert.com/ I'm just not sure how much that costs. And I haven't talked to him about how he wants to handle transactions yet. I'm thinking paypal, but I'm not sure.
  9. What FTP Client are you using? Are you sure that the files are actually on the server? Can you browse to the folder: http://www.mysite.com/folder/folder_where_pictures_are_located?

    VPS Questions

Thanks for all the information and well, I guess that leads to more questions: The main reason I was going to go with the Advanced package was because cPanel was included. I'm comfortable with cPanel and I like using it. I'd probably also go managed because while I used to be familiar with Linux, it's been a while and I don't want to delay my client while I fumble around figuring out how to install PHP, MySQL, etc., etc. I suppose I could drop the managed part once I get back on my feet. As far as the customer base, it's mainly a US-based company and server-powered is located in Florida. So I'm not too worried about that. I also only plan on running one shop, so I'm probably only going to need one IP, at least at first. I just sent serverpowered an email with a few questions, so we'll see how they respond and then I can go from there. You guys have been very helpful so far!
  11. Yeah... this falls once again under things I need to do when I get time.
  12. For those of you who run a VPS or know much about them, what should I be looking for? I basically want to run a store that could take off. http://www.serverpowered.com/vps.php That's what I'm currently looking at and I don't know much about Fedora or CentOS. I'm looking at probably the advanced plan. Thoughts?
  13. Umm... thanks... but it's an impression plan, not a click plan.
  14. I'm kind of in the same boat. Although Misc never really made sense to me.
  15. You don't need to copy and paste responses.
  16. One is not better than the other. It's a question of when you use them.
  17. I somewhat agree. I'll see what the others think.
  18. So you do it once or twice and then you learn... that's life.
  19. I second steviewdr's suggestion. I use it and it's the best I've found.
  20. "like it used to be".... as in a few months ago... a few years ago? People come and go, people get busy with school or work. I'd say things are just as constant if not more busy than in the "past".
  21. There are pagination links on the left side... what more do you want?
  22. neylitalo is correct.  That cannot be done with the current settings, but I'd agree that it's a good point!
